Overview of Teaching Philosophy
I believe that a student’s educational journey is a braid of three central components: their
history, their present learning, and their future aspirations. I center my teaching around these
three components of my students’ lives. Specifically, I acknowledge their histories while designing
my courses in order to create an inclusive learning environment, I utilize active learning in my
present classes to achieve positive learning outcomes, and I engage in service and mentorship to
help students take their next steps after they leave my classroom.
