Special Issue Call for Papers: Theme: "Process Intensification of Sustainable Manufacturing of Biopolymers"
From January 2025 to December 2025
Dr. Jainesh Jhaveri worked as a Post-Doctoral Fellow at hte GmbH - the High Throughput Experimentation company, a subsidiary of BASF, based in Heidelberg, Germany.
He worked in the Heterogeneous Catalysis Laboratory (HetCatLab) in a team of 4 post-docs and 12 students (Masters/Bachelors) supervised by Prof. Dr. Stephan Andreas Schunk and Dr. Ivana Jevtovikj.
He was involved in two early-phase and futuristic research projects, namely AMAZING project and SOMMER project, that deal with catalytic membrane reactors for equilibrium-limited gas-phase reactions coupled with separation processes.
Jainesh supervised up to three master's student and three short-term student interns on various aspects of these projects. Two publications are expected from the work carried out as a post-doctoral fellow at hte GmbH. Following are the tentative titles of manuscripts under preparation:

From 2022 to 2024
Dr. Jainesh Jhaveri worked as a Project Research Scientist on an ONGC-sponsored project on the Sour Gas Sweetening process. The project titled "A nanofluid-based intensification strategy for ONGC’s gas sweetening process in their URAN plant" aimed to enhance the CO2 absorption rate using nanofluids in combination with other conventional physical and chemical solvents.
 Before joining this project, he worked as an Institute Post-Doctoral Fellow (PDF) with Prof. A. K. Suresh on the DST-sponsored project in the Department of Chemical Engineering, IIT Bombay. The overall theme of the project was "Clean Coal Utilization of Indian Coals: Carbon Capture and Pollution Control." These projects with overlapping objectives were divided into two parts: (1) to enhance the rate of absorption of CO2 using nanofluids and (2) to apply the same strategy for CO2 desorption.
The first test of nanofluid-based transport rate enhancement in CO2 desorption from the saturated solvent was successfully demonstrated in the lab-scale packed-bed column based at IIT Bombay.
Experience
During research activities, he gained some experience in analytical characterization techniques like HPLC, Contact angle goniometer, TPDRO, TGA-DSC, etc., and experimental setups like Membrane filtration setup, Batch slurry reactor, Spinning basket reactor, and Fixed bed reactor. Moreover, his Ph.D. work included modeling and simulation using MATLAB, involving different ODEs and PDEs, regression analysis, and statistical analysis.
 The video embedded below explains the working principle of TPDRO and was made for the training of instrument assistants and for the course called Catalysis and Characterization (Instructor: Prof. Sanjay Mahajani, ChED, IITB).
 The image embedded below is that of High performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC; Make: Waters Corporation) on which all the reactant and product analysis were carried out during doctoral thesis work. The system was equipped with a binary HPLC pump, UV detector, and RI detector. Apart from Waters' HPLC, Jainesh also worked with Agilent's HPLC system.
From 2015 to 2022
Jainesh Jhaveri completed his Ph.D. in 2022 under the guidance of Prof. A. K. Suresh and Prof. S. M. Mahajani from the Department of Chemical Engineering, IIT Bombay. His thesis project focused on reaction engineering studies on oxidation of glycerol. He is experienced in both experimental as well as modeling-related work. His project involved working on various reactors like batch reactor, spinning basket reactor, and fixed bed reactor. He has gained a good experience in handling HPLC for product analyses and TPDRO for catalyst characterization. Moreover, during the course of Ph.D., he was involved in Teaching assistantships for various courses including NPTEL.
He has published three research articles in SCI-rated peer-reviewed journals, and presented his work at four international conferences.
From 2013 to 2015
Earlier, he worked in the area of membrane separation - preparation, modification, and application of anti-fouling membranes for M.Tech. dissertation under Prof. Z. V. P. Murthy and Prof. Chetan M. Patel in the Department of Chemical Engineering, SVNIT Surat. From his M.Tech. work, he has published four research articles in SCI-rated peer-reviewed journals and contributed to a book chapter.
From May 2013 to July 2013
Before joining M.Tech. program, he worked for three months as a Junior Research Fellow at Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar under Prof. Sameer V. Dalvi on the DST-sponsored project in the area of Biocompatible microbubble encapsulation for biological applications.
