TOPICS FOR THE 4IJS

The symposium will address the following topics, derived from the common online meetings of GOJAGE:

1. Monitoring, conservation, and lethal control (hunting)

2. Population ecology, reproduction biology, and behavior

3. Genetics, genomics, and biogeography

4. Movement ecology

5. Community ecology: interspecific relations, prey-predator dynamics, scavenging, and food resources

6. Social aspects of carnivores and mesocarnivores (cultural semiotics)

7. Diseases, control, and prevention of epizootic diseases

We encourage submissions exploring these themes concerning the golden jackal (Canis aureus) and other related species! Here is a link to the jackal-related species for which we encourage you to submit your work to the 4IJS.

Guidelines for Abstract Submission

4th International Jackal Symposium

Date: 7-10 October 2026
Location: TULCEA, Danube Delta, Romania

Abstract Submission Guidelines:

1. Title:

   • The title of your abstract should reflect the content of your research. It should be concise and informative.

   • The scientific name of the species must be written in italics (e.g., Canis aureus).

   • You may include the author and year of species description only if relevant to taxonomic studies.

2. Example Title:

   • "Dietary Habits of the Golden Jackal (Canis aureus) in the Danube Delta"

   • "Taxonomy and Distribution of Canis lupaster anthus (Cuvier, 1820) in Sub-Saharan Africa" 

3. Affiliations:

   • Please include the names of all authors along with their affiliations (department, institution, country).

   • The corresponding author should be indicated clearly with their email address.

4. Example Affiliation:

   • John Doe, Department of Ecology, University of Bucharest, Romania (john.doe@unibuc.ro)

   • Jane Smith, Department of Wildlife Conservation, University of Vienna, Austria (jane.smith@univie.ac.at)

5. Length:

   • Abstracts must be between 300 and 350 words.

6. Structure:

   • Introduction: Briefly describe the context and purpose of your study (1-2 sentences).

   • Methods: Summarize the methodology used in your study (2-3 sentences).

   • Results: Highlight the key findings of your research (3-4 sentences).

   • Conclusions: Provide the implications or relevance of your findings (1-2 sentences).

7. Visuals:

   • Authors may include up to three objects (images, tables, or graphs) to support their abstract.

   • Resolution: All visuals must have a minimum resolution of 300 DPI.

   • Size: Maximum visual size should be 9 x 16 cm (approximately 1063 x 1890 pixels).

   • Format:

     • The preferred format for images and graphics is PNG.

     • Tables should be included directly in the text and formatted for clear readability.

     • If using JPEG, ensure it is a high-quality image to maintain clarity.

8. Language:

   • All abstracts must be submitted in English.

9. Submission Process:

   • Abstracts must be submitted via email in Word (.doc) format, using Times New Roman, size 12. 

   • The deadline for abstract submission was 28 June 2026. These works entered to gthe Review Process with Scientific Committee on 11th of July 2026.

   • Notifications of acceptance will be available by July 20, 2026 via PORTAL ABSTRACT REVIEW.

BLITZ SESSION

9. • Due to increased interest in 4IJS and to allow the optimum quality and up/to/date research on jackals and related species ecology ti be presented during the 4IJS a NEW SESSION and CALL of ABSTRACTS was opened, THE BLITZ SESSION! The scientific value and the editing rules are of the same importance as the Abstracts submitted on due time! The presentation of the works differ and the work would be assigned into a spevcial BLITZ SESSION with 3 minutes powerpoint and 2 minutes questions, or 5 minutes presentation with final session addressed one question.

   • DEADLINE BLITZ SESSION: 31 JULY 2026

10. Review Process:

    • The scientific committee will review abstracts.

    • Notifications of acceptance will be sent.

11. Important Notes:

    • Ensure that your abstract is clear, concise, and free of errors.

    • Any abstracts exceeding the word limit or visual size requirements will be rejected.

    • You may be asked to revise your submission based on the committee's feedback.

Presentation Preferences for the 4th International Jackal Symposium

We invite all participants to submit their works for either oral or poster presentations. Please specify your preferred presentation type when submitting your abstract. However, please note that the organizing committee may assign you to the other format based on the available schedule.

Presentation Guidelines

1. Oral Presentations:

   • Duration: 7 minutes, followed by a 3-minute Q&A.

   • Format: Presentations should be in English. Please use PowerPoint for your slides.

2. Poster Presentations:

   • Size: A0 size (84.1 cm x 118.9 cm, 33.1 inches x 46.8 inches).

   • Orientation: Portrait.

   • Authors must be present at their posters during the designated session for questions.

3. BLITZ PRESENTATIONS:

2. • Duration: 3 minutes, followed by a 2-minute Q&A. OR 5 minutes presentation with 1 question at the end of the session.

   • Format: Presentations should be in English. Please use PowerPoint for your slides.

   • This is the only presentation type still opened until 31 of July 2026!
