Introduction
For this first assignment I choose to write about Crandall Creek. Crandall Creek is located in the North Absaroka wilderness near Cody Wyoming. I sampled Crandall Creek in 2023 and this reach of creek stood out to me due to the cliffs that confined the channel as well as the large debris jam at the outlet of the canyon section.

Site Name: North Fork Crandall Creek
Observations:
This Reach of Crandall Creek is heavily confined by two steep cliff faces leaving little room for meandering. The cliffs on each side were roughly 30-50 meters tall while the channel running through was narrow leading to a heavily confined channel that was cutting into the bedrock. The top of the reach the channel was not as confined by cliff walls. This section had multiple braided channels as well as flood debris on the floodplain . At the outlet of the canyon section where the valley opened up there was a debris pile. This pile likely formed following a heavy flooding event where the debris was forced through the canyon section and was then caught on the large boulders at the outlet. The pile created a plunge pool at that was significantly deeper than the rest of the channel. The average substrate in this area is a mix of cobble and boulders throughout the confined section and gravel at the top section.
