My Personal Values and How They Relate to Public Health Work
This is my first value listed because it is something I’ve believed in ever since I was little. Growing up, I wanted to be so many things (a mime, chef, teacher, bio-medical engineer) all that centered around helping individuals in one way or another. Now in the field of public health, our business is literally helping people; I know that will be a part of whatever job I land but helping people is something that has always been at my core that I had to include it here on this list.
With innovation, I’m combining it with evolution since I see them as one of the same. This is another core value of mine that, like be of service, has been with me since I was young. I always strive to do my best, be my best, and to do so I know I have to grow and continually evolve. In the field of public health, innovation is key to helping individuals at a larger scale and in more impactful ways. When working, I want to work on creating new programs that replace old systems in place to better our communities and the population we serve. As public health professionals we have to be constantly adapting to the new situations of the world to stay on top of our priorities.
I hate being late and it has something that always been a pet peeve of mine. However, I take punctuality further than just being on time, I’ve always lumped it in as hard working and being reliable. I’ve strived to be someone my friends can rely on and in a work setting I want to be able to know my coworkers will be give our work their best and that we can expect each other to do the same to help others.
Integrity is a value I chose because I believe working with honesty and passion to do what is right is very important. I’ve never really liked individuals that do things with ulterior motives in mind. With my future career, I want to be surrounded by coworkers who champion a cause they feel passionate about and work diligently and with integrity to make impactful changes in people’s lives.
