(BabyFeet)
Kennan and Jade wanted to have children. They had been married for five years and had been trying to have children but nothing seemed to work. They tried fertility treatments, diets, injections and so much more. Many were painful and cost a lot of money. They so badly wanted children though.
Keenan was a pastor at the local church in a small town and Jade was a 5th grade teacher. They loved their jobs and they were always surrounded by kids. Every week they saw another couple get pregnant, but not them. They asked God why. Keenan wanted to take a camping trip with Jade to get away from reality. With this get away they could fast and pray all weekend.
Keenan: Are you ready to get some hiking in this week?
Jade: Oh Keenan, I am so ready. I love nature. I am glad I get to spend some quality time with you and God.
Keenan: Do you have everything packed and ready to go, babe?
Jade: I am ready. I call driving!!
Keenan: Dangit, I wanted to drive the Jeep.
They arrived at Devils Den and unpacked everything and got comfortable. Jade gathered the firewood while Keenan started to build the fire. You could smell the mixture of pine and burning wood as they gazed into each other's eyes. They started to worship the Lord through songs and praises. They sat around the fire all night while Keenan played the guitar.
" How deep the Father's love for us
How vast beyond all measure
That He should give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure
How great the pain of searing loss
The Father turns His face away
As wounds which mar the Chosen One
Bring many sons to glory
Behold the man upon a cross
My sin upon His shoulders
Ashamed, I hear my mocking voice
Call out among the scoffers
It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life
I know that it is finished
I will not boast in anything
No gifts, no power, no wisdom
But I will boast in Jesus Christ
His death…" (Selah)
They had a great weekend and tried to forget the fact that their hearts were hurting and that they were broken from not being able to have children. They hiked up beautiful mountains and roasted hot dogs and s'mores over the campfire. It was a relaxing weekend and all they thought about was the scenery, God's blessings and food. They knew all that they could do was to worship the Lord and keep him the center of their lives. They knew that they had a great support system and to just trust God's timing. They knew that they were blessed with many other things in life. They understood if it was something God did not call them to have.
Keenan: I feel so refreshed and calm after this weekend. How are you feeling?
Jade: I feel so much better but I am still mourning. I trust in God and everything that He is doing. He knows what is best for us even when it is not what I want. I believe that He has the best plan for our lives. Thank you, honey, for making me feel better and getting us away. You always know what to do. Best hubby ever. I love you.
Keenan: I love you too. Wanna go get some fries and a milkshake? I am starving.
Jade: YES! Then go home and cuddle on the couch and enjoy life?
A year later they wanted to go on the same trip but this year it would be different. They would bring along a baby boy that they adopted. God knew how and when to bless them. They named him Asher. Asher was a baby boy whose mother passed away while giving birth and had no father. When Keenan and Jade got the call that a baby was ready to be adopted they knew that was God calling them to adopt this baby. They were ready because of this long wait. It was a mystery that came into a gift. A gift that was priceless.
Author's Note:
I wanted to write about Pandu and his wives. He was cursed so that he could not have sex but Pandu's wife said that she was granted a mantra and could call upon a god. She called upon the gods for specific sons and she was granted them. It was a pretty cool story. Then she gave sons to the other wife. She was kind and giving. It was a story about real struggles that even the most powerful person can struggle with. Money cannot fix all problems. I wanted to write an American version of that. I did my God and then wrote about stories I have heard in the church. I know this story is real and meaningful. You probably know someone who has struggles with this very thing. I love how these stories overlap and really tell an amazing story. Struggling to have a baby is real and raw. I hope I got to show a little glance into someone's life. I wanted to combine the stories. Both of the women asked for children and then their gods answered in different ways. Both were giving and kind women who deserved children. Their gods were listening and blessed them.
