The IWV Conservancy started as an idea during a master's course for conservation biology at the University of Miami, Ohio called Project Dragonfly (1). As a veteran of the Navy and a local science teacher, the experiences made me a proponent of teamwork, learning about our surroundings, a love of nature and being a steward of our environment. Encountering the amazing local biologists, birders, environmentalists, fly fishers, hunters and nature enthusiasts, the more I realized that some people in our valley were missing out on great opportunities to disconnect from life and be present in the beauty of our unique, rugged ecoregion, to de-stress, enjoy, contribute and advocate for our wildlife, plants and environment.
While doing research for this program, a number of friends were found to be already avid conservationists and deeply involved in our ecoregion. These conscientious locals generously donate their time to give back to the IWV community in education events (Maturango Museum), preserving wildlife (Kerncrest Audubon), monitoring water qualify (Aguabonita Flyfishers), raising native plants for gardens (Eastern Kern County Resources Conservation District), maintaining wildlife guzzlers (Quail Forever), living sustainably and building community gardens.

This organization is an attempt to recognize our community conservation resources, and connect people to the organizations which are striving towards wildlife, plant and habitat conservation in the Indian Wells Valley, California.
