Abigail is an eighteen-year-old Caucasian female. She has been working with Bocelli for two months now. This is her first job as a waitress. She is a hard worker but does not have much experience. She completed the hands-on training required for the position as shadow for a fellow coworker. Abigail prefers to complete trainings at home on her own time instead of having to come into work on her free time to complete these at the restaurant.  

In Abigail’s free time she enjoys hanging out with her friends and spending time with her Golden Retriever, Sally. She loves being adventurous and exploring outdoors, hiking, kayaking, and spending time on the water.  

Abigail was chosen as one of the personas due to the amount of time she has spent with Bocelli. Her two months of experience allows for a comparison to be made between her and experienced employees at Bocelli. Abigail will allow for comparison on length of training needed to show growth and success compared to those with years of experience in the restaurant industry.

Abigail looks up to Leslie Torres, full-time employee at Bocelli, because she was the only employee who approached her and assisted when Abigail was struggling her first week. Abigail has stated in the past, “Leslie is my role model and I know that if I ever need help, she is there for me, even if it isn’t work related.” Due to this, Abigail is more willing to open up and attend trainings if Leslie is there.

Zach is a twenty-nine-year-old African American Male. He has been working with Bocelli for three years now. He is a great waiter and works hard. He sometimes has an issue with calling out and someone must cover his shift often. He has completed the previous required trainings for his position and prefers to have times set aside while he is working and getting paid to complete his trainings.

In Zach’s free time he loves to play video games with his friends, spend time with his wife, and watch movies. He loves to just relax and rest on his days off. He also loves to travel with his wife when they get the chance.

Zach was chosen as one of our focuses due to having prior experience as a host within the restaurant industry. Amongst his colleagues, Zach is considered fall within the mean of all employees and their experiences. Zach was chosen to compare Abigail, a new hire, and Leslie, his mentor.  Zach calls out more often than Abigail and Leslie do, so giving him an 8-week training scope will allow for keeping track of call outs and possibly adjusting his schedule to avoid others needing to cover his shifts.

Zach is a hard worker who enjoys training at Bocelli, he tends to use prior experiences when working at Bocelli and that has led to some positive changes. Zach was first trained by Leslie Torres, and she has picked up most of his shifts when he is unable to work, due to this he admires Leslie and what she does for her co-workers. Zach has stated in the past, “Leslie is the reason I am continuing my education. I look up to her and know she is great at what she does.” Due to this, Zach has been seen helping new hires when Leslie is not available.

Leslie is a forty-five-year-old Hispanic female. She has been working with Bocelli for ten years now and has 15 years restaurant experience total. She is one of the top waitresses at Bocelli. She knows all the ins and outs of the restaurant. She is always helpful to new hires and does everything in her power to make sure they feel welcomed and confident in their tasks. She trains most, if not all, of the new hires and part-time workers at Bocelli. She is passionate about her position and plans to retire from Bocelli. She has always completed all the trainings required as soon as she is told. She is very conscientious and prompt.

In Leslie’s free time she loves spending time with her family. In her eyes family is always first. She has made many sacrifices throughout her career, but she always has made it work. Her family means everything to her. She loves playing board games, going on vacation, and having big dinners with her family. One of her favorite hobbies is cooking. She started out in the restaurant business as a cook before moving to a waitress position. Leslie is a one of a kind, dedicated, dependable worker.

Primary Persona 

Leslie Torres is the primary persona due to her work ethic, experience, and conscientiousness. She values her co-workers and is dedicated to assisting wherever she is needed. Most, if not all, of the Bocelli staff value her opinion, experience, and ability to calm situations down in the workplace. Leslie is known to have trained about 95% of the current staff at Bocelli and has been the facilitator for over 40 trainings given in the last 5 years. She is one of two staff members who has the most experience in the restaurant industry and this will help with comparing staff at different stages of their careers. Management has noticed that staff are more willing to attend trainings if Leslie is either running the training or in attendance.
