At the end of my junior year, I started interning with Akinaka and Associates, a Civil Engineering and Consulting firm. I've continued to intern with them through the school year, going into the office after school. Below are pictures and descriptions of some projects I've worked on. I cannot share most of my work to respect the client's privacy. All of these projects were done in AutoCAD.
I helped to draft and design this sheet for a pressure reducing valve. This project helped me to learn a lot about fluids, pressure, and flow rate.Â
For this project, I helped to design and draft this intersection, which is on a collapsing culvert. This was declared an emergency project so it has strict deadlines. So far, I have worked on the guardrails and callouts. Currently, I am working on creating the pavement marking for the intersection to improve traffic flow and saftey.
I had the opportunity to go into the field and inspect Oahu's water system. On Oahu, nearly the entire island gets its water from the Board of Water Supply (BWS), so ensuring that the various places the water is stored and treated are sanitary is key. I assisted in inspecting water pumps and tanks, granulated activated carbon treatment sites, and control buildings. I cannot share any pictures from the sites.
