Assignment Completion and Grading Process

• • 1. Please aim to complete and submit work on Canvas, prior to the deadline.

    2. I will review your submission and mark the assignment with points and feedback, in the Grades area of Canvas. Viewing Rubric Feedback in Canvas

    3. If you don't earn a passing grade on an assignment, that simply means you aren't quite there yet, but you'll get there! Just review my feedback, revise your work, and resubmit the assignment with a description of what you changed/added.

    4. I am usually very prompt with feedback and grades on weekdays. Sometimes, if I fall a little behind, it might take me up to a week to catch up. Please let me know if there is any confusion regarding requirements or grading. If you think I made a mistake and want me to look at your grade again, let me know within a week.

Deadlines and Late Work

This is almost a self-paced course, but not quite. Each module contains assignments with specific due dates, which you should try to stay on track with. Your regular and timely interaction are important to your and your peers' learning.

Due dates have been designed in the course to ensure time is provided to allow you to produce your best work, despite the quick timeline! You are welcome to work ahead.

Because time management is challenging for all of us, deadlines might not always be met. But, you’re in luck! Late submissions will be accepted. I don't want you to fall too far behind though, so I'll probably send you a reminder every now and then. I am happy to discuss a plan with you to catch up if you do fall behind.

Final Grade Makeup

You do not have to complete each section of Canvas before moving to the next section. However, I highly encourage you to complete every assignment on time. We will be covering a lot of material, so it is easy to get lost in the weeds

Grades are not weighted and will be determined by adding up the total points earned by each student and dividing by the total points possible. Your grades are visible at all times in Canvas.

Here's how the points work out towards your final grade:

• • 5% of the Grade is based on the Quizzes 

  • 55% of the Grade is based on Labs

  • 10% of the Grade is based on your Midterm

  • 10% of the Grade is based on the Final Exam

  • 20% of the Grade is based on Discord participation and class participation

  • 5 points will be deducted for not using the lab template which is located at the top of your lab assignments

  • 5 points will be deducted per week, for late assignments

A standard letter grading schema will be used when I submit final letter grades. 90% and up is an A, 80 to 89% is a B, 70 to 79% is a C, 60 to 69% is a D, and 59% to 0% is an F.

Tips For Success!

We know this is hard work and can be stressful. To help reduce that stress and improve the likelihood of completing the work in this course successfully:

1. Allow yourself the time and space you need to do your best work.

2. Don't procrastinate. Plan ahead!

3. If you get stuck on an assignment, reach out to me or one of your classmates in Discord! We welcome your questions and are happy to help you think through your ideas so you can successfully complete an assignment.

Check Your Grades Any Time

All of your scores will be recorded in Canvas. You can check your grades online whenever you have internet access. I highly recommend the Canvas smartphone app.

Just so you know, I have set up Canvas to automatically put in 0 points for any "missing" assignments at the due date. If you submit an assignment after that, I will update your score when I grade the assignment.
