Pre-Departure

Preparation

My first step in preparing for this experience was to research the country to gain a sense of people and place. I studied Ireland's history, societal norms, traditions, climate, foods, holidays, and geography.  While studying abroad at Harlaxton College in Grantham, England last summer, I took a weekend trip to Northern Ireland. Due to my travel in Northern Ireland, I had a better idea of what to expect when traveling and living in the Republic of Ireland for international student teaching. While packing for the trip, I tried to ensure that I brought a wardrobe with weather-appropriate casual and professional clothing. (I definitely recommend packing clothes that you can mix-and-match for versatility and to try and pick some pieces that can double as school and casual wear.) With my research complete and bags packed, I was ready to depart on this exciting journey!
