Essays were collected internationally and written based on the following prompt:
In recent years, new genetic treatments and therapies have been developed, such as Casgevy for sickle cell disease or Roctavian for hemophilia. Choose one genetic treatment or therapy that has been developed or widely used in recent years.
1. Explain what the treatment is and how it works.
2. Discuss its advantages and disadvantages. Think about ethical issues, effects on society, cost, and accessibility.
3. If you or someone you care about had this condition, would you choose this treatment? Please explain why, considering things like age, overall health, cost factors, etc.
Winners were reviewed by our Editors and selected based on the scientific merit and persuasiveness of the essay. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd place essays will be published in our upcoming issue (December 2026)!

Jan 2026 We will go over plans for our next Issue, answer questions about the club and training, and discuss leadership roles.
Feb 2026: Each Editor will be assigned a paper with 3-5 editors. We'll start our reviews.
Mar 2026: Go into breakout rooms to discuss and finish reviews; Reviews will be returned to authors after this meeting.
Apr 2026: While authors work on revisions, editors will work on the Editor Picks section of our journal.
May 2026: Go over revisions and help finalize; Final Layout Team will go into breakout room to work on layout.
June 2026 (Optional): We will review our finalized issue and go over plans for Issue 7! New members are able to join the club.
