When a customer’s subscription renewal charge fails the service is suspended (customer is not deactivated however synchronization of contacts is not done, restore of contacts will not work)

Unsubscription can be done from the SDP portal, however the customer must be informed of losing their contacts backed up on the service.
Contacts are stored for 150 days after deactivation after which contacts will be deleted permanently

1. How is Phonebook backup activated
New users to MTN Phonebook Backup must open the menu of your SIM “My MTN”, search for MTN Backup item and click Synchronize.
You can also accept the invitation to back up your contacts after some have been added.
Then your contacts will be saved or “Send Start to 5122. There is no charge for activation. Monthly charge for the service is 0.65p

I want to restore my contacts can I do it on my yam phone?
Currently any phone type that shows "unknown handset" on the IMEI via the application will not be able to receive restored contacts.
In that event, affected customers to put their sim in another handset for them(customers) to be assisted accordingly.
If this does not work, then the agent/TL is supposed to send an email to cpesupport for further assistance.
2. Can I use the MTN Phonebook Backup service without subscribing to it?
No, the MTN Phonebook Backup service is now subscription-based
3. I received an SMS saying I will be charged of 0.65p after I recharge my account, why?
The 0.65p is the monthly subscription fee which is charged every 30 days if the customer has enough balance. Customers who have insufficient balance will be billed when they recharge on any day over the next 30 days
4. I have not used my MTN SIM card for a while, and received an SMS saying that I was deactivated due to insufficient balance and my contacts are no more stored. Have I lost all my contacts?
Customers with insufficient balance over a period will be unsubscribed from the service but will not lose their contacts as the contacts are still saved on the server can be restored again by MTN Phonebook Backup: you just need to launch a new backup from your My MTN menu.
5. What happens to my contacts if I send Stop to 5122?
You will be unsubscribed from the MTN Phonebook Backup service, and your contacts will be inactive but will remain on the server.
6. Can I remain subscribed to MTN Phonebook Backup but without the automatic backup every week?
No, the MTN Phonebook Backup service now provides you with this feature to secure your contacts with a better periodicity. Thus you have no risk to lose your newly added contacts.
7. Am I charged every week for the automatic backup, even if I added no contact to my phonebook?
There is no charge for automatic backup or synchronization. Only monthly charge of 0.65p applies
8. What happens if I accept the invitation (i.e SIM pop-up) to back up my contacts, will I also have the automatic backup for this week?
No, the automatic backup is based on your last operation date, either manual or automatic. Thus, you make a backup after an automatic operation; the following one will take place 7 days after this operation.
9. I use the MTN Phonebook Backup Android/iPhone/Blackberry application. Are my Handset contacts also stored when I am subscribed to MTN Phonebook Backup?
Yes, the MTN Phonebook Backup service allows you to backup both your SIM and Handset contacts, and the subscription/monthly storage fee covers both your SIM and Handset contacts storage. Kindly note that your SIM contacts are updated every week by the service in case you modified them. Your contacts stored on the Handset (Android, iPhone, Blackberry device) are backup with MTN Phonebook Backup when you accept the invitation from the mobile application/launch a backup from the application itself.
10. Can I OPT out from the service?
To unsubscribe from MTN Phonebook Backup, kindly send “Stop” to 5122 and you will instantly be unsubscribed from the service. Unsubscription can be done from the SDP portal, however the customer must be informed of losing their contacts backed up on the service.
