Design and User Research in AR/VR/MR

an Hybrid Workshop

at ISMAR 2022

The goal of this event is to bring those interested in AR/VR/MR design and user research together.

About

The workshop will explore new techniques and processes for design, prototyping and user research in AR/VR/MR. How do we design and test useful and usable AR/VR/MR applications? How can we modify known design and user research techniques and establish new techniques to suit immersive mediums? How might these processes vary based on the industry use case of the AR/VR/MR application? What are the metrics of success?

We are also interested in evaluation techniques that are qualitative, quantitative, behavioral, computational/sensor-based, as well as rooted in ergonomics and human factors, and others!

The workshop will be of interest to ISMAR 2022 conference participants and timely, because as AR/VR/MR becomes more ubiquitous, designers and researchers will need new methods for prototyping, and to evaluate the usability and usefulness of XR applications.

Call for Proposals

We welcome applicants from Research and Design in Augmented, Virtual and Mixed Reality, Human Computer Interaction, Social Computing, Artificial Intelligence, Virtual Humans, and other related areas. Due to ISMAR 2022 hybrid format, the workshop will be conducted online.

We ask participants to submit work on:

  • Methods, processes and frameworks for design,

  • Tools for prototyping and testing in AR/VR,

  • Qualitative, quantitative, computational/sensor-based methods,

  • Methods rooted in ergonomics and human factors,

  • Other work relevant to design, prototyping and user research in AR/VR/MR

Submission deadline is July 27th, 2022. Acceptance notifications will be sent out by August 8th, 2022. Please use the IEEE Computer Society VGTC format for paper submissions. Please keep submission to a 4 page limit, not including citations.

The workshop papers will be included in the adjunct proceedings of ISMAR. Here is the link for ISMAR 2021: https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/xpl/conhome/9585620/proceeding
