A: Each right answer is worth 1 point. Wrong answers are worth 0 points.
A: We wanted to prevent students from taking the easy route, fast-forward through the questions and give random answers. That's why they need to watch the entire video to go through all the questions.
You cannot download the lessons, but you can always play them from iSLCollective as long as you have internet access. Unfortunately, even if we did solve this technically, downloading would be against Youtube's terms of use.
In the case of all the worksheets and powerpoints on iSLCollective, you are used to the fact that you should make sure there are no mistakes in the worksheets, or if there are, you correct it. If you need to tailor it to your class, you can edit the worksheets.
It's the same with video lessons. You are supposed to make sure the quality is OK. Since you cannot fast-forward in the video, you would have to watch the entire video to see all the questions. That would be too slow, so we display all the questions in order below the video preview on the page of the video lesson. This way you can quickly overview all the questions and decide if this lesson is right for you.
If the questions are okay, but you need to correct a typo, add an extra question, etc., you can make a copy of the lesson and make edits in your copy. (See more about copy & editing here: https://sites.google.com/view/islcollective-video-lesson-faq/a-detailed-guide-to-creating).
What we have in mind is classrooms with projectors. We hope that you too have one in your classroom, and can play video lessons on the big screen for your students. Or if you are a private tutor, you can play them on your laptop or tablet (only on Chrome browser now).
We recommend that you copypaste the quiz questions (which we have nicely formatted for you) into a document and print it for your student. So they can mark their answers on the answer sheet. If you teach one-on-one, you can also let your student answer in speech.
So this is the recommended procedure:
1. Optional: Play the original video before the quiz. You can find the link below the video player. In case of longer videos, you may want to start directly with the video quiz.
2. Start the video lesson.
3. When you get to the first question, the video will pause. Let the students write down the answer. Try to get feedback from the class if they need to listen to the relevant bit again. If they do, click the Replay button (it only works if the author provided replays).
4. When the class seems to be confident in the answer, click "Check" and check the solution. Then continue watching the video.
You can also assign video lessons as homework to your students. You can ask them to make a screenshot of their final score, and send it to you in email as proof that they have done it.
This is just the beginning! We have big plans to improve class work with video lessons in the near future. We would like to replace paper answer sheets and enable you to let your students submit their answers via their mobile phone or tablet while you are showing them the video lesson on the big screen.
We also want to enable you to organize competitions between them, even pairing them up virtually, to motivate them even better.
Besides, we are planning to let you create classes on islcollective and add your students to your class, so you can check if they have done the homework, and how well they did in this or that video lesson.
