đž About Islaâs Journey
Islaâs Journey Rescue is a growing, community-driven nonprofit based in Brevard County, Florida, built on one simple belief: every dog deserves a chanceâno matter how lost, scared, or overlooked they may be.
This mission began with one dog.
Isla was an elusive stray living near a busy roadway in Merritt Island. For weeks, she survived on her ownâscared, shut down, and constantly at risk. Day after day, we showed up. Feeding her. Sitting with her. Earning her trust little by little. What started as an attempt to help one dog turned into a commitment that wouldnât be broken.
After weeks of patience, persistence, and near misses, Isla was finally brought to safetyânot with force, but with trust.
That moment changed everything.
What began as one rescue became a mission to help the dogs no one else could reachâthe scared ones, the overlooked ones, the ones still out there.
Today, Islaâs Journey works on the front lines of animal welfare, stepping in where help is needed most.
We donât just rescueâwe show up.
From rescuing and rehabilitating abandoned dogs, to reuniting lost pets with their families, to providing food and support through our community pet pantry, our work is rooted in both compassion and action. Many of the animals we take in come from difficult situations, and we are committed to giving them the time, care, and patience they need to heal and find the right home.
As weâve grown, so has the need. More families are struggling to keep their pets, more dogs are going missing, and more animals are falling through the cracks. Islaâs Journey exists to fill those gapsâoffering real, hands-on help when it matters most.
We are a volunteer-driven organization with minimal overhead, which means the majority of support we receive goes directly to the animals and the community we serve.
This is more than rescue.
Itâs prevention.
Itâs reunification.
Itâs giving second chancesâand sometimes, saving the only chance a dog has.
We work to trap strays and try to reunite them with their owners, they have a 5 day hold in a foster home. If they arenât reclaimed they will then have a health exam, proper vaccines, a microchip, and will be spayed/neutered if they werenât upon intake. They will then live in a foster home until adopted into a furever home!
We strive to educate the community on responsible pet ownership and breed awareness. Lost dog prevention is just another topic we are passionate about. We want all dogs to be in a safe and loving home.Â
