PU Electrical Engineering Deptt students meet VC

LAHORE: (Tuesday, August 09, 2011): Students of Punjab University Electrical Engineering Department students, showing outstanding performance in co-curricular competitions, met the Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran in his office here on Tuesday. Department Chairman Prof Dr Rafique Ahmad and students’ supervisor for the contests and Lecturer Umar Farooq were also present on the occasion. The Vice-Chancellor told that the students of the department have won 37 competitions during the last three years. VC Dr Mujahid Kamran appreciated the performance of students in the competitions and congratulated Dr Rafique Ahmad and Umar Farooq. He said the distinction in competitions were due to selection of students on merit. Encouraging the students, the VC advised them to work hard with commitment and devotion and earn fame for the varsity at national and international level.

PU students win silver medal in research paper contest

LAHORE : (Tuesday, March 22, 2011): Punjab University Department of Electrical Engineering students, Syed Omer Saleh, M Usman Asad, Hassam Moazzam and Azeem Javed, have won silver medal in research paper competition organized by Institute of Electrical & Electronic Engineers Pakistan (IEEEP) at 26th International Multi-topic Symposium held at Pearl Continental Karachi.

Earlier, the department's students, M Azeem Javed, Mahzeb Jamil and Abdul Basit, have won five positions, three first and two seconds, in IEEE Week 2011 held at National University of Computer & Emerging Sciences, Lahore. Department Lecturer Umar Farooq supervised the students in the competitions. Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran has congratulated College Principal Prof Dr Javed Ahmad, Chairman Department Prof Dr Rafiq Ahmad, Supervisor Umar Farooq and students on their achievements.

PU students shine in All Pakistan Electrical Engineering Conference

LAHORE: (Saturday, December 24, 2011): Punjab University Electrical Engineering Department’s students have shown outstanding performance in “All Pakistan Electrical Engineering Conference 2011” held at Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering & Technology Topi. In Project Exhibition contest, team comprising Rehan Yousaf, Ammar Khalid, Muhammad Amar and Khurshid Imran won first position while team comprising Ali Raza and Hafiz Hasan bagged second position. In Research Paper contest, team comprising Syed Omer Saleh, Muhammad Umer, Ali Simran and Usman Tariq clinched first position while team comprising Azeem Javed, Abdul Basit and Mah Zaib Jamil stood second. In MATLAB Programming competition, team comprising Azeem Javed and Mah Zaib Jamil bagged second position while Asim Abbas bagged third place. In total, PU students won six positions in the conference. Assistant Professor Umar Farooq supervised the students in the conference. Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran has congratulated College Principal Prof Dr Rafiq Ahmad, Supervisor Umar Farooq and students on this great achievement. He also advised the faculty and students to work hard to bring fame for the varsity. Students’ teams from UET Lahore, UET Peshawar, EME College NUST, LUMS, PAF KIET, COMSATS, CIIT, UCP and Hitech University participated in the conference.

PU students shine at Engineering Olympiad 2012

LAHORE: (Tuesday, May 08, 2012): Punjab University students of Electrical Engineering Department has shown outstanding performance in Engineering Olympiad 2012, which was organized by University of Central Punjab (UCP). Punjab University team got 10 positions in various competitions.

In technical paper contest, first position was bagged by the team “FUZZ” comprising Syed Omer Saleh, Faiqa Rafiq and Syed Hassan Gillani. The second position won by “Team A” comprising Muhammad Zeeshan, Aleem Farooq, Maaz Tahir and Marzooq Ahmad. The third position in this category was bagged by the team “PIONEER” comprising Muhammad Azeem Javed, Mah Zaib Jamil, Abdul Basit and Rida Jamil. In speed programming competition, the first position was won by “PUCIT” team comprising of Dawood and Waqas. In speed wiring competition, first position was bagged by team “PIONEER” comprising Muhammd Azeem Javed and Mah Zaib Jamil, while the second position was won by the team “OUTMAX” comprising Abdul Basit and Syed Hassan Gillani. In “MATLAB” programming competition, the second position was bagged by the team “RAZA GROUP” comprising of Ali Raza and Hafiz Hassan Raza while third position was won by Asim Abbas and Arslan Ahmad. In Techlamation contest, the second position was bagged by Imran Saeed Lodhi and Abdul Basit while third position in this contest was bagged by Osama Butt and Ozair Ahmad. Assistant Prof Umer Farooq supervised the students in this competition. PU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran has congratulated the students, supervisor and College Principal Prof Dr Rafiq Ahmad on this great success. PU VC has also advised the students to work hard to bring more fame for the varsity.

PU students shine in robot race contests at LUMS, IIEE

LAHORE: (Thursday, October 20, 2011): Punjab University Department of Electrical Engineering students’ team, comprising of Muhammad Azam Jved, Syed Omer Saleh, Muhammad Abdul Basit and Mah Zeb Jamil, has shown outstanding performance in robot race competitions held at Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) and IIEE Karachi.

At LUMS, 30 teams participated in the competition. In quarter-final, PU team beat the winner of NERC 2011, a robot named M6 of NUST and qualified for the semi-final. The PU team bagged third position in the competition with a difference of fraction of a second. Moreover, same students’ team of PU clinched second position in robot race contest at IIEE Karachi. A total of 30 teams from various universities participated in the contest.

Department’s faculty member Umer Farooq supervised the students in these contests. PU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran has congratulated College Principal & Chairman Prof Dr Rafique Ahmad, Supervisor Umer Farooq and students on these achievements and advised the students and faculty to work hard to bring fame for the varsity.

It is noteworthy that since 2008, teams of the Electrical Engineering Department have won 40 awards in various national as well as international contests which in fact validate the Vice-Chancellor’s vision for promoting research culture in the varsity.

PU students shine at REEC 2012

LAHORE: (Sunday, May 13, 2012): Punjab University students of Electrical Engineering have shown their outstanding performance in Rachna Electrical and Electronic Competition 2012 by winning 10 awards in various categories. The most important category was Project Exhibition, in which all three positions were bagged by PU students. The students’ team comprising Muhammad Zeeshan, Aleem Farooq, Maaz Tahir and Marzooq Ahmad got 1st position while Muhammad Rehan Yousuf, Muhammad Azeem Javed, Mah Zaib Jamil, Ammar Khalid and Abdul Basit got 2nd position, while the 3rd position was bagged by Ali Raza, Hafiz Hasan Raza, Syed Hassan Gillani, Junaid Ahmad and Syed Omer Saleh. In Circuit Design Competition 1st position was bagged by Muhammad Azeem Javed and Mah Zaib Jamil while 2nd position in this competition was won by Ali Raza and Hafiz Hassan Raza. In Crisis Expert Competition, 1st position was bagged by Muhammad Azeem Javed, Syed Hasan Gillani, Imran Lodhi and Mah Zaib Jamil while 2nd position was in this competition was won by Ali Raza, Hafiz Hasan Raza and Junaid Ahmad. In Speed Wiring Competition the 2nd position was bagged by Ali Raza and Hafiz Hasan Raza. In Riddle Logic Competition the team comprising of Mah Zaib Jamil and Abdul Basit got 3rd position. In Rammgers Quest Competition 1st position was bagged by Rida Jaqmil, Syeda Faiqa Beenish and Imran Lodhi. Assistant Prof Umer Farooq supervised the students in this competition. PU students clinch top 3 positions in APPE

LAHORE: (Friday, December 28, 2012): The students of Punjab University Department of Electrical Engineering have shown outstanding performance and won all the three positions in All Pakistan Project Exhibition (APPE) contests held at Jinnah Convention Centre Islamabad. Mohsin-e-Pakistan Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan gave away prizes to winners. A team comprising Muhammad Tayyab, Zafar Ali, Muhammad Imran and Faisal Shahzad won 1st position with cash prize worth Rs 40,000 for their project “Blimp Based Unmanned Aerial Vehicle for Surveillance”. Kashif Sohail, Zeeshan Arshad, Baber Hassan and Ahsan Jahangir won 2nd position with cash prize worth Rs 25,000 for their project “Hybrid Energy System” while the team comprising Muhammad Azeem Javed, Mahzaib Jamil and Abdul Basit got 3rd position with cash prize worth Rs 15, 000 for their project “Mobility Assistive Intelligent Hybrid Automobile for Impaired People”. Assistant Prof Umer Farooq supervised the students in this contest. PU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran has congratulated the College Principal Prof Dr Rafiq Ahmed, Assistant Prof Umer Farooq and students on their great achievement and advised them to keep it up.

PU Faculty Member Honored: Dr. Umar Farooq, senior-most teacher of electrical engineering department, has been invited to serve as Technical Program Committee of 5th International Conference on Control, Robotics and Cybernatics, to be held at Wuhan, China during October 16-18, 2020. As the invitation reads, Dr. Farooq has been selected for this role due to his expertise and achievements.

PU Faculty Member Honored

Dr. Umar Farooq, senior most teacher of electrical engineering department, has been invited to serve as moderator for doctoral seminar focussing on "Intelligent Sensing, Control and Systems for Ocean Technologies" at Zhejiang University, China. Moderators from top universities such as University of Massachusetts Lowell, USA, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA, Imperial College London, and others have also been invited. Zhejiang University is one of the top Public universities in Hangzhou, China Mainland and is ranked #53 in QS Global World Rankings 2021.


PU Students Shine at SOFA 2020

PU undergrad electrical engineering students have presented their research at 9th International Workshop on Soft Computing Applications (SOFA) which is hosted by UAV, Arad Romania in collaboration with IEEE Computational Intelligence Society and IEEE Romania Section. Conference was held online from Nov 27-29, 2020. Students completed their research works under the supervision of Dr. Umar Farooq and presented well during the conference, as observed from the encouraging remarks by the conference and session chairs. Special session was 'Intelligent Control of Robotics & Power Systems' which was chaired by eminent researchers from around the globe. Muhammad Umer, Muhammad Sabih, Adeel and Hamza Moazzam presented their research on fault classification in power systems. Amnah Haroon, Areesha Rahim, Hareem Siddique and Iqra Marryam presented their research on deep learning based industrial automation. Umair Butt, Dawood Imtiaz Jutt and Muhammad Hasin Butt presented their research on simpifying boolean algebraic expressions. A total of 81 papers from 37 countries were accepted and presented. Proceedings of the conference will be published in Springer Series on 'Advances in Intelligent Systems and Computing'.

PU Students Presented Papers at SIELMEN'21

PU undergrad students of electrical engineering have presented their research at 13th International Conference on Electromechanical and Energy Systems (SIELMEN) which was held online on 7th and 8th October 2021. The conference was jointly organized by Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Gheorghe Asachi, Technical University of Iasi, Romania, Faculty of Power and Electrical Engineering, Moldovan Technical University of Chisinau, R. Moldova Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Craiova, Romania, and Graduates Association of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of Iasi, Romania. The conference was technically sponsored by IEEE Romania Section, World Energy Council – Romanian National Committee, and Academy of Technical Sciences of Romania. A total of 108 research papers were accepted for presentation after peer review. PU student Muhammad Wajeeh Uddin Khan presented his research on the design of new multilevel inverter topology with symmetrical extension of H-Bridge while PU student Salis Hussain presented his research on the design of new 31-levels multilevel inverter topology. The students completed their research under the joint supervision of Assistant Professor Naureen Butt and Dr. Umar Farooq. The work was done in collaboration with King Fahad University of Petroleum and Minerals, Dhahran and Dalhousie University, Halifax.

Poster Presentation on Modeling Real Life Processes Using Logic Design Concepts

Society of Engineering Excellence (SEE) organized poster presentation event at the Institute of Electrical, Electronic & Computer Engineering (IEECE), University of the Punjab Lahore on May 25, 2022. The theme of the poster presentation was “Modeling Real-Life Processes Using Logic Design Concept”. Second year students of IEECE participated in the event. They modeled a variety of processes using state machines including but not limited to business models, sustainable systems, biological systems, COVID-19, transportation systems, and others. Prof. Dr. Azhar Naeem, Director IEECE, was the Chief Guest of the event while Dr. Umar Farooq, Patron SEE, was the chief organizer of the event. Event started at 8:45am and Chief Guest listened to all the poster presentations and encouraged the students for doing a wonderful work. A total of five independent judges evaluated the students’ work against five markers and their evaluations were averaged to generate the poster competition result. Prof. Dr. Kamran Abid (IEECE), Dr. Shareen Shafique (Physics), Dr. Zeeshan Azmat (IEECE), Dr. Kamal Shahid (IEECE), and Engr. Muhammad Arif Anwar (China) performed duties as Judges. Saad Ullah Bhatti bagged first position for his work on blood glucose monitoring. Ali Tahir secured second position for his work on climate change, while Arsh Alam secured third position for her work on car washing system. Souvenirs were distributed by the Chief Guest amongst Judges, and winners of the poster event. All the volunteers and participants of the poster event were also awarded with certificates. In addition, Patron SEE presented a memento to the Chief Guest. Event was concluded with the closing remarks from Patron SEE, Chief Guest and student Advisor of IEECE. In his final remarks, Chief Guest ensured his continuous support for such cocurricular activities in the future.
