Reviewing Basic Policy
What is the good game? What is the meaning of Gaming Competition? This is the fundamental proposition to prove. Imagine there are two games. One is Banking Simulation, another one is gender equalization. Both of the aspects are respectable. it is not a story that which one is better than another. So, we don't evaluate the theme itself. We tried to develop a rubric to evaluate simulation and gaming. However, it is obvious that baby game includes a lot of errors, contradictions, and setting . It is a nature of Gaming Simulation that to make a better game, to repeat trials and improvements in a long range. What we should do in ISGC is not to find faults, but to show suggestions to improve. Future possibility is the target of award. Thus, we apply the simple policy as below.
1) Simulation
The link between teaching objective and the game as the output must be matched.
2) Playability
It is common mistake, try to reflect the truth of the target like a mirror. Such game tend to become complexed. While remaining important ideas, but to wrap or cut-off branches. Any game must have physical limit and time period.
3) Creativity
The reviewer compare the games to find the advantages. Saying in the different way, we believe diamonds are hidden in much information.
Review Method
The game is played by same reviewers in the reviewing day. The participants have two hours to facilitate the game. The participant should address the purpose and playing method briefly, demonstrate the game, debrief the game, and answer the questions.
The reviewers get together in a same venue. To play the new game to evaluate the game, to help each other is needed. To grasp the situation correctly, face-to-face communication is necessary, never be replaced by ICT connection. In ISGC2012, the reviewer board comes up to Chulalongkong University, but the facilitation will be operated by Zoom. This is a scheme to keep the fair competition. The reviewer can observe the game development process (Day 1 to 4), but cannot help the participants. To provide and lead the students is a duty of lead teachers in each site.
