History of ISAGA Simulation and Gaming Competition (ISGC)

ISAGA(International Simulation and Gaming Association) is the academic society established in 1969 to research the principle and practice of simulation and gaming in various backgrounds. ISAGA also concerns about spreading its culture to the world. Based on such perspective, ISAGA has been hosting ISAGA Summer School (ISS) for recent decades to support new simulation and gaming developers. 

When Covid-19 pandemic prevail worldwide fear and separation, ISS2020 was ready to host by JASAG on August 2020. However, it become impossible to manage by traditional style. ISS 2020 was postponed to 2021. In the spring of 2021, delta wave was in it peak, therefore we started to build a new model; Local SAGA hosts a small group session in each country. Only on Opening session and Reviewing Session, they connect together via online. The Participants who wish to create a new game join and discuss, and make a new game within three days. The reviewer panel (Scientific Committee Member) play the participants' game with the facilitation by the authors themselves via the internet. By Comparing the overall factors that reviewer panel found, they rank the game. If the game is worth awarding, they recommend the award to ISAGA community. 

ISAGA respects the opinions and provide awards under the name of the chair. Such idea was realized in August 2021, as ISS 2021. Three teams from New Zealand, Japan, and Sweden participated. Japan and Sweden proceed to the final match, and they were awarded at ISAGA2021.

In 2022, Covid-19 pandemic condition is getting better. ISS 2022 adopting face-to-face style has resumed in Germany. Since the 2021 Style shows the way of encouragement, therefore, ISAGA decided to continue the event under the different brand: ISAGA Simulation Gaming Competition (ISGC).  

In 2023, face-to-face session become possible in most countries, so ISGC decided to expire the learning session. ISS take care of new developers' support, and ISGC become simple contest. 

ISGC is the rare opportunity to introduce your game to ISAGA community. Anyone who has a ready-to-play game can join the match.  Top-class professionals of simulation gaming whose skills are ensured at the ISAGA community will play your game, rank the game, provide feedback, and award.  We especially welcome young faculty members, researchers, Ph.D. students to enrich your future good teaching.
