iScanly is designed to be local-first. We do not require an account, operate an advertising or analytics service, sell personal information, or track you across apps or websites.
Most content stays on your device. Information leaves the app only when a feature requires an external service or when you explicitly choose to export, share, search, save, or open content elsewhere.
This Privacy Policy explains how the developer of iScanly ("we," "us," or "our") handles information when you use the iScanly iPhone application (the "App") or contact us for support.
The App scans and creates QR codes and barcodes, scans documents, looks up food products, recognizes and translates text in images, creates business cards, and lets you act on recognized content.
The App may process the following information locally. We do not receive this information through a developer-operated server.
Scanned and generated QR-code or barcode content: Show results, create codes, maintain history, and perform actions you select. Stored in the App's private sandbox until you delete a record, clear history, or remove the App. Local recovery copies may retain a previous saved version until replaced or the App is deleted.
Photos, camera frames, recognized text, and translations: Scan codes, recognize text, translate selected images, and save results. Processed for the requested feature. Saved images or cached results remain locally until deleted. Translation cache entries become invalid after 30 days and are cleaned up when the App loads or accesses the cache.
Scanned documents and business-card exports: Create PDFs, previews, and image exports. Stored in app-owned files. Deleting the owning record removes its app-owned files.
Preferences and favorites: Remember language, scanner behavior, styles, favorites, and other settings. Stored locally until reset or the App is removed.
Food-product cache: Avoid repeating a product lookup and support recent cached results. Stored locally by barcode. Entries become invalid after 30 days and are cleaned up when the App loads or accesses the cache.
Clipboard: When you select the clipboard creation action, the App reads clipboard text to create a code. Copy actions, and the optional automatic-copy scanner setting when enabled, write recognized content to the system clipboard. iOS clipboard sharing or Universal Clipboard may make that content available according to your system settings.
Content you scan may itself contain personal, confidential, or sensitive information. You control what you scan and whether you save, export, or share it.
When you use Food Scan for a product that is not already cached, the App sends the scanned barcode to the public Open Food Facts API at world.openfoodfacts.org. Open Food Facts receives the barcode and ordinary network information such as your IP address and request metadata, and may serve product images. We do not add an advertising identifier, device identifier, account identifier, or analytics identifier to that request.
The App uses Apple-provided camera, Vision, Natural Language, Translation, Photos, Contacts, Calendar, Files, Maps, and sharing capabilities. OCR uses Apple Vision on your device, and translation uses the Apple Translation framework. If a required language is not installed, iOS may request permission to download language resources from Apple over the internet. The developer does not supply or host those language models and does not receive your images or text for translation. Apple manages system downloads and related settings under the Apple Privacy Policy.
If you choose to open a website, search the web, open a map location, send email, add a contact or event, save to Photos or Files, or share content, the selected information is sent to the destination you choose. The destination app or service handles it under its own privacy practices.
If you contact us, we receive your email address and anything you include in your message. We use it only to respond, troubleshoot, protect the App, or comply with law. Email is processed by the applicable email providers and retained only as reasonably necessary for those purposes.
The published policy and terms are hosted on Google Sites. When you visit those pages, Google may process your IP address, browser information, cookies, and technical logs to provide and secure the website under the Google Privacy Policy. We do not add Google Analytics, advertising tags, contact forms, or other tracking tools to these legal pages.
Camera: Scan QR codes, barcodes, documents, food labels, and text.
Photo Library read access: Use an image you select for code scanning, logo selection, or translation.
Photo Library add access: Save generated codes, translated images, business cards, or scanned documents when you request it.
Contacts: Add scanned contact information only after you select that action.
Calendar write-only access: Add a scanned event only after you select that action.
You can deny or revoke permissions in iPhone Settings. The related feature may then be unavailable, but unrelated features should continue to work.
The current version of iScanly does not include advertising SDKs, analytics SDKs, attribution SDKs, third-party crash-reporting SDKs, marketing push notifications, App Tracking Transparency requests, IDFA access, or cross-app tracking. We do not sell or rent personal information.
Delete individual records or clear history in the App to remove the associated local records.
App-owned document and business-card files are removed when their owning records are deleted.
Food and translation cache entries become invalid after 30 days and are cleaned up when the App loads or accesses the cache. Local recovery files may retain a previous saved version until replaced or the App is deleted.
Deleting the App removes its sandboxed data, subject to normal iOS backup and restoration behavior.
Content exported to Photos, Files, Contacts, Calendar, another app, or an external service must be deleted from that destination separately.
The App does not provide a developer-operated cloud backup. Your device or iCloud backup may include App data according to your Apple settings. System-managed language downloads, clipboard content, and external copies are managed separately from App history.
We limit processing to what is needed for the selected features and rely on iOS sandboxing and system permission controls. No storage or transmission method is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Protect your device and avoid scanning or exporting sensitive content unless appropriate.
iScanly is a general-purpose utility and is not directed to children under 13 or the minimum age required by local law. We do not knowingly collect children's personal information through a developer-operated service. A parent or guardian with a concern may contact us.
Because we do not operate user accounts or receive your locally stored App content, we generally cannot access, export, correct, or delete that content for you. You can manage it in the App, through iOS permissions, or by deleting the App. For information held by a destination service, submit requests directly to that service.
Depending on where you live, privacy law may provide additional rights. Contact us if you believe we hold information from a support interaction that is subject to such a request.
We may update this Privacy Policy when the App, applicable law, or our practices change. We will update the date above and provide any additional notice required by law. Material changes apply prospectively unless law requires otherwise.
