3D Printer

The 3D printer in the Creator Space is an Ultimaker 2+ with a print size of 223 x 223 x 205 mm. You can use any number of CAD softwares to design creations to print, but probably the easiest place to start is with Tinkercad. It is free to create an account and all creations are saved automatically to the cloud. One account can be used for many creations at once, so a teacher can create one account for a whole class to use at the same time and then have access to all the creations. Once a design is created and ready, you can download it as a .stl file then prepare it for the printer using Cura.

Learning How to 3D Model

Tinkercad had a bunch of great resources for getting started in their software. You can go to this link and follow along with a bunch of lessons on how to use the software.

3D Printer Ideas and Inspirations

  • Print out a logo or sign for you or your class. Here is one ISB sign hanging from a mobile (the hook is made out of the letter J), and another ISB sign made to stand up on a desk.
  • Design a clip that can hold bags closed. It's something that is instantly usable and there are lots of ways to accomplish it!
  • Design a wire organizer to hold up your phone charger on a table or organize the wires on your desk. Think of a place you need your wires to be organized and ask your students to fix your problem!
  • Make a stand to hold up a phone or iPad. These can come in all shapes and sizes - anything that holds the tablet on the bottom and supports it as it leans back will work.
