“Universal truths don’t matter until they are true for you personally.” ~ Deepak Chopra

So What's the Difference?

Spirituality

  • Spirituality is an individual experience that involves strengthening a connection with yourself & a divine figure.

  • Those who are spiritual have the ability to pull ideologies from different religions in order to create their own set of beliefs; while believing everyone’s truths in different religions are essentially very similar.

  • With spirituality you are always evolving and growing as you discover more about yourself and how you find your place in the world. There’s more ability to change and morph one’s set of beliefs as you experience more in life.

Religious

  • Being religious is more of a group experience and strengthening a connection with yourself, those who are part of the same religion & the divine figure.

  • Those who are religious believe that they have their own predetermined version of the “truth” of how we should live or of our origins

  • Since things are pretty much already defined. It is highly encouraged to stay within the set of beliefs determined by the particular religion and often discourages going against those beliefs

However, despite the differences between spirituality and being religious, both are often used interchangeably.

Why?

At the end of the day they essentially have the same goal...

To encourage the search for peace & happiness in one’s life
