Mechancial engineering is what I am pursuing as my career in my future. I am pursuing mechanical engineering because it is what seems to help a lot of people because I can improve the things humans use in their everyday lives. What made me interested to enter in this field was that when I was seven years old, I helped my dad with improving our garage door, and it really amazed me when we were able to make it work different, and so he was what made me think about entering this career field. From that time, I have watched so much videos that showed how manufacturing engineers come up with creative things that I don't think other people would have thought of. So when I joined an elective in middle school that did a little bit of manufacturing engineering, it made me feel that this career could be right one for me.
When it comes to mechanical engineering, I try to take classes that could help me in achieving my career. The classes that I have been taking that could really help me achieve my career choice are Math and English Language Arts at Leonardtown High School. Those classes could possible help me achieve my career because with Math, I can be able to make equations and also calculations for developing, then building, and then test the things that I made, and English Language Arts can help express my ideas to everyone as if they were instructions on how to make something. The program of studies I have taken that could possibly assist in obtaining my dream is Core Algebra, Core Geometry, Freshman English Pre-AP/Honors, World Literature Pre-AP/Honors, and Engineering at Leonardtown High School and Dr. James A. Forrest Career & Technology Center. Thus far in math, I have learned about measurements, shapes, weight, equations, and ratios, and in English Language Arts, I have learned on how to summarize of what to do in the most simplest form that there is.
Knowing that when it comes to achieving my career, I have to have skills that would benefit me when I actually get my career. Participating in extracurricular activities is what I like to do a lot when there is not much going on. In all my activities, such as sports and volunteer work, they have taught me lot of teamwork, hard work, dedication, commitment and focus. These activities have taught me leadership, while performing as a team captain. Surprisingly, out of all of the activities that I have participated in, outside of school, the one that I really think helped me towards the future, is volunteering at church. My reason on my believe that volunteering at church can be an activity that could help me in my career choice is that they taught me how to be a leader, how to help, or assist others who need assistance, and also on teamwork to put things together. Even though that I do activities and also other things in life, I never been employed. However, I hope I accomplish to achieve a career that I will love to do for the rest of my life and make a difference and a huge impact, not only to this country, but to society overall.
The majority of high school students for the most part, tend to pursue the common practice of attending a four year college. Some will join the military, others will go on to community college while pursuing the workforce and immediate workforce career. As for me, my goal is to attend a four year university to pursue an engineering degree. At this very moment, I am very unsure of what university to attend, I'm still researching which university has an engineering program that is suitable for me. I am aware that things change, things happen, life happens, and I know that my plans will change, maybe, maybe not. But I know I will stay flexible to whatever comes at me, but no matter what, I will maintain my focus to pursue and accomplish my main goal; be an engineer. I understand sacrifices will have to be made, and if I have to pause, or hold off from my goals, I will pursue a job in the mean time that is related to what I love to do a lot.
Once becoming an engineer in the field that I dream of, there is so much that I could give back to the world and my community. So when I achieve my career, I will help my community and society by improving their lives and helping them with things that they could need. For example, I will give back to the school district with scholarships, tutoring, and participating in community service and volunteering. My plan to make an impact to the world is by creating something in the future that is useful and could improve the lives of so many people and making the world a better place. I am a firm believer in that is the very main purpose of engineers; making this world last longer because this planet is all we have to live on.
