Wolf research

Wolves are one of the most researched animals in the Greater Yellowstone ecosystem. If you look closely, you can see that this wolf has a radio collar around its neck. With this collar, researchers can track the movement of the pack and better understand the home range of the packs. In the winter researchers will dart and tranquilize wolves from a helicopter take samples and then color them and release them. It takes them about a week or two to get used to it and then after that, it doesn't bother them at all. Sometimes pups or other wolves will chew on the collar and sometimes destroy it just like puppies.
