The Infection Prevention and Control Unit of Hospital Sungai Buloh was established in the year 2006 by three staff nurses with post basic infection control. Fast forwarding to the year 2022, the unit is now led by two consultants, Dr Yasmin Mohamed Ghani (Infectious Diseases) and Dr Amira Amir (Clinical Microbiologist), and comprises of two Medical Officers, a Sister and 4 Infection Control Nurses. The unit’s daily activities mainly involve Lab-based & Clinical-based Surveillance, Hand Hygiene Audits and Outbreak Management. Besides that, we also conduct training, namely, Hand Hygiene, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), PAPR and Environmental Cleaning based on necessity. We also organize workshops and campaigns for healthcare workers, infection control link nurses and the public regarding Hand Hygiene, Standard and Transmission-based Precautions, Aseptic Technique, etc.
