Metabrush is the source of the interesting hair in this image. I show how I deformed the face and colorized the hair in iColorama.
In iColorama, I applied Form/Deforms preset 20 to distort the image, widening her head and face into the empty space to her right. Use the Zoom slider to control the size of the distorted area. Then use the x and y sliders to control the position of the distorted area. Here I centered the distorted area over her left cheek, and I used a fairly large zoom.
Now I will use Form/Deforms preset 5 in a number of steps to fine tune the distortion of her face. Here I used Form/Deforms preset 5 to move the nose. Preset 5 is extremely flexible. You can position the distortion effect using the x and y sliders under Set. You can control the size of the distorted area using the Scale slider. And you can control the magnitude of the effect using the Magnify slider. If you move the Magnify slider to a positive number (the right half of the slider bar), you will get a magnified effect, like looking through a magnifying glass. If you move the Magnify slider to a negative number (the left side of the slider bar), you will get a shrunken effect, like looking through a magnifying glass backwards. For fine-tuning adjustments like I am making here, I use a small scale slider setting, a small positive magnify setting, and I am very careful about the positioning the effect precisely where I want it, since small changes on a face can result in very different expressions.
I used Form/Deforms preset 5 to increase the size of the mouth.
I used Form/Deforms preset 5 to increase the size of the left eye.
I used Form/Deforms preset 5 to lift the upper Face and change the direction of Gaze. This was a slightly larger Scale slider setting than the more local adjusments I made above.
I used Effect/Raise at low opacity with a brush mask, to pull out detail in the unusual hair. (This hair had been created in Metabrush.) The use of a brush mask lets me apply the Raise effect to only the hair.
Now I inverted the brush mask to apply a somewhat lower opacity Effect/Raise effect to the rest of the image.
I used Effect/Sharpen to sharpen the eyes, using an inverted brush mask to paint the effect only onto the eyes. This is a nice image, but I wanted to try a dramatic color change. I will do that next.
I used Preset/Gradient preset 1 to paint a red color onto her hair. When you open your image in Preset/Gradient, you will see a white screen. Tap the Color button at the bottom right of your screen, and your image will appear. Now tap the color picker (white box) in the lower right of your screen, and choose a color. You will see the entire image become tinted with the color you selected. Since I want to apply the color only to the hair, I used an inverted brush mask so I could paint the red color only onto the hair. You can reopen the color picker to fine tune the color, and you can use the Opacity slider to control the intensity of the effect.
I used Adjust/Exposure, with an inverted brush mask, to paint highlights onto the hair.
I used Tone/Enhance to fine-tune the color.
For finishing touches, I softened the image by using Effect/Glow at low opacity, and Style/Painterly with the Blur Paint preset at low opacity.
