I like to use the Trimaginator app to produce images that look like strings over empty space, to defined a seemingly hollow figure or face wrapped in string. Here I distorted such a Trimaginator image to stretch it as if blown apart by wind. Then I blended the result with a some dramatic clouds, for this stormy-looking piece.
As a starting point, I reused this Trimaginator image that I made previously. You can see how I made it here.
I will use this photo from Pixabay, a source of copyright-free images.
In iColorama, to prepare the fabric image for an upcoming Distort step, I blurred the fabric image using Effect/Blur preset 1 at 100% opacity. Then I distorted the Trimaginator image over the fabric image in Effect/Distort. I used my fingers to resize and move the woman around over the fabric, until I found something I liked, before applying.
I used Form/Crop to crop. Then I applied Adjust/Tonelab preset 4 and Adjust/High preset 1, both at low opacity, for increased clarity and to bring out the highlights.
Now I will use this photo from Pixabay.
In Effect/Blend, I blended the sky over the figure, resizing and moving the top image for a pleasing composition. I used the gray slider under Set to control the parts of the image that get blended.
As finishing touches, I used Adjust/High preset 1 to enhance the highlights. I used Style/Flow to smooth out the lines. I used Adjust/Levels to add a bit more contrast. I used Tone/Enhance to modify the color. I used Effect/Sharpen to add a bit of sharpness. I used Form/Crop to crop.
Now to make another distorted version. I started with this Pixabay image.
I used Effect/Blur preset 1 to blur, in preparation for the later Distort step. I applied Adjust/Tonelab preset 4 at low opacity for added clarity.
I used Effect/Distort to distort the Trimaginator woman over the fabric.
To finish, I used Style/Flow to smooth the lines. I used Adjust/Levels to add contrast. I used Tone/Enhance to optimize the color. I used Adjust/High preset 1 to bring out the highlights. I used Effect/Denoise preset 4 to reduce aliasing (jaggy lines that sometimes result from some process steps). I sharpened a bit using Effect/Sharpen, and I cropped using Form/Crop.
