After experimenting with Metabrush, I wanted to use its brush strokes to create big hair. I had also created an abstract image in Metabrush that reminded me of the covering of a baseball. So here I decided to create a blank woman's face, paint big hair onto her, and then texture her face like a baseball. You can see more about using Metabrush to create brushes such as I used in this image, here.
I started with this photo from Pixabay, which is a source of copyright-free images. I like the nice blank canvas made by her face.
In iColorama, I used Form/Warp to warp her face, giving her a more interesting expression and shape.
I will use this source image for the Metabrush brushes. You can get an idea of how I made this source image here.
I opened the image of the girl in Metabrush. In Metabrush, I painted on hair in sweeping strokes using a Gradient brush, small spacing in the brush settings, and the above source image.
Now, starting with a blank canvas in Metabrush, I created this image. I used Gradient brush 16/32, using the source image mentioned above. I used a large size for the brush, and high opacity, In the brush settings I used a small spacing.
Now in iColorama, in Effect/Blend, I blended the big hair woman onto the Metabrush "snakes". I tried several different blending modes and slider settings.
This is the final image after optimizing for color, tone, smoothness and sharpness.
This is another version, where I added Effect/Lighten preset 4 (at low opacity) and Effect/Raise to make her more leathery, like a baseball.
