May our struggles and our concern for this planet never take away the joy of our hope. Laudato Si #244
Minute of the July Meeting on July 22nd:
Dear Friends we began our 1 hour meeting with a reflection from Sr. Ruth (see Below) Ruth explained that she took a lot of the content for her reflection on the links between the SDGs and Laudato Si looking at SDGs 6,12,13,14 & 15.
We need to regain our sense of connection and awareness of the interdependence of all that exists. Pope Francis calls us to ‘a serene attentiveness’ to nature…
............and the question Ruth Poses in her presentation. How can we develop a more contemplative attitude and a deeper sense of the sacredness of all creation?
Ruth explained that most of her preparation for this reflection used a booklet / resource created by the Justice Contacts of the Union a number of years ago. I am sharing that resource below.
Sr. Mary T explained that we should make contact with the other Focus Groups to try to find our what they have done or are doing in respect of their work to honour and advance the care / rights of the earth. We should also try to ascertain the extent to which this work cross cuts with the IPA UN Focus to "End Violence Against Women and Children". (Brian agreed to do this and to put the collated results into a powerpoint for the next meeting.
In an effort to ascertain where to next for our group we took the decision not to reinvent the wheel and that we could look to what we have prepared already ( see reflections above) and the imminent Laudato Si Action Platform as the Congregational Leadership Team have signed us all up to this programme.
Brian agreed to take a look to see what an how we can move on the Laudato Si Action Platform taking into account our SDG commitments. We also are reminded that some communities are very small and we must reasonably look at how the platform might apply in smaller as well as in larger communities.
At our meeting and for our reference we were referred to an article that appeared on the Global Catholic Climate Movement's Website.
from the Global Catholic Climate Movement (GCCM) on June 18th and this article can be found here
Next meeting: August 26th 2021 (One Hour).
