Below are actual assignments given to first-year college students in Iowa. The assignments were collected from community college, private, and university faculty across Iowa. Please use these assignments with teachers, administrators, and other librarians to improve understanding of what first-year college students will be expected to know and do after they complete high school.

Many assignments have been stripped of instructor and college names but are otherwise presented here as they are to students.
