The League of United Latin American Citizens was founded in 1929, and it is the oldest Latino/Hispanic organization in the U.S. The Mission of LULAC is to advance economic condition, educational attainment, political influence, housing, health and civil rights for Latinos. 

Iowa City Council 308 was chartered in 2012. This year we will be awarding $7,500 to graduating seniors and post-graduates, all from Johnson County and the U of I. Iowa LULAC Councils will be awarding over $85,000 to 104 students for the 2026-2027 school year.

Council 308 meets once a month for a 1-2hr meeting. Members are encouraged to join committees according to interests like: Community Engagement & Programing; 2027 Annual Conference Planning; Marketing; and Fundraising. Committees meet once a month outside of regular monthly meetings as needed.
