# Privacy Policy — Life in mist
**Effective date:** April 28, 2026
**Last updated:** April 28, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how **Life in mist** (“we”, “us”, or “our”) handles information when you use our iOS application **Life in mist** (the “App”). Life in mist is a travel and exploration app that records your movement, visualizes explored areas on a map, and offers optional account, cloud backup, and premium features.
By using the App, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

## 1. Who we are & how to contact us
**Operator / data contact:** Life in mist development
**Email:** [7666535@gmail.com](mailto:7666535@gmail.com)
For privacy-related questions, requests (access, deletion, etc.), or concerns, contact us at the email above. We may ask you to verify your identity before fulfilling certain requests.
---
## 2. Summary of what the App does with data
- **Core purpose:** Location and motion-related data are used to record trails, fog-of-war exploration visuals, segments, pins, statistics, and related features **primarily on your device**.
- **Account & backup (optional):** If you create an account or use cloud backup, we use backend services (**LeanCloud**) to authenticate you and support features described below. Backup files through **Apple iCloud** are governed by your Apple ID and Apple’s terms.
- **Purchases:** Subscription and one-time purchases are processed by **Apple** via StoreKit; we do not receive your full payment card details.
- **Analytics:** We collect **minimal usage analytics** (e.g., daily activity indicators and successful purchase records) via our backend to operate and improve the App—see **Section 7**.
- **Feedback:** Optional in-app feedback (text and optional screenshots/images you send) is stored so we can respond and improve the App—see **Section 8**.
- **We do not sell your personal information.** We do not use your data for third-party behavioral advertising profiles within the App as described here.
---
## 3. Information we collect & how we collect it
### 3.1 Location and movement data (essential for core features)
With your permission, the App accesses **location services** (including **while in use** and, when you enable related features, **always / background** location as allowed by iOS):
- **GPS coordinates** (latitude/longitude), **timestamps**, and related metadata such as **speed**, **altitude** (when available), and **horizontal accuracy**—used to build travel **tracks**, **segments**, **explored areas / fog-of-war data**, and related statistics.
- **Background location** may be used so recording and optional features (for example, **Smart Recording** / geofence-style automation you configure) work when the App is not open, according to your settings and iOS permissions.
- **Reverse geocoding** may be used to derive **human-readable place labels** (for example, city or region names for segment titles). This typically relies on **Apple’s on-device or system services** (for example, MapKit / Core Location–related APIs) and is subject to Apple’s terms and your device settings.
**Local storage:** Much of this information is stored **locally on your device** (for example, in a local database and related files) so the map, history, export, and backup features can function.
### 3.2 Map pins and content you create
- **Custom pins** (position, text you enter, timestamps, and related settings) are stored **locally** for your offline map experience.
- If you choose **public visibility** options where the App supports them, selected pin-related data may be **uploaded** to our backend so other users can see shared pins according to **your choices** and App rules. Only share what you are comfortable publishing.
### 3.3 Smart Recording (optional)
If you enable **Smart Recording**, the App stores **zones** you define (for example, center coordinates, radius, names, and switches) **on your device**. These zones are used to automate pausing/resuming recording as described in the App. They are not described in product documentation as being uploaded separately for analytics; they are tied to **your local backup** if you backup your database to iCloud (see Section 6).
### 3.4 Account registration and sign-in
If you register or sign in:
- **Email-based account:** Email address (and credential verification handled securely via our backend provider **LeanCloud**), **explorer name/username** as configured in the App, and **password** handling consistent with LeanCloud/security practices—we do **not** store plaintext passwords in the App in ways that violate standard practices.
- **Sign in with Apple:** Subject to Apple’s Sign in with Apple terms; we receive identifiers/name/email per Apple’s flow and your choices.
### 3.5 Purchases and subscriptions
- **Product identifiers, subscription status, receipt-related verification data, and purchase events** may be processed on our servers (via **LeanCloud**) for **entitlement validation**, fraud prevention, and basic purchase analytics.
- **Payment processing** is performed by **Apple**. We do not receive your full credit card number.
### 3.6 iCloud backup (optional)
If you use **iCloud Drive** backup or restore as offered in the App, your backup files are stored under **your Apple ID** in your iCloud storage. Apple’s iCloud terms and your device backup settings apply. We do not control Apple’s infrastructure.
### 3.7 GPX and file import/export
When you **export** or **import** GPX or similar files, data is processed **as you direct** (for example, reading a file you choose or writing a file to share). That processing happens to provide the feature; it does not change the local-first nature of your trail data unless you upload or share it elsewhere yourself.
### 3.8 Device and app diagnostics (feedback & support)
If you contact us through **in-app feedback**, we may collect:
- **Message text** you type and **optional images** you attach (which may be uploaded as files to our backend).
- **Account identifier** if you are logged in, or a **pseudonymous device-linked identifier** if you are not logged in, so we can thread conversations.
- **Device model, OS version, and app version** to reproduce issues.
### 3.9 Local notifications
If you enable notifications (for example, Smart Recording entry/exit alerts), the App uses **Apple’s local notification** mechanisms. We do not need your phone number for this.
### 3.10 Automatic analytics (minimal)
We may record **aggregated or event-level** information such as:
- **Daily active use** indicators (for example, one record per user or per anonymous device key per day, depending on login state).
- **Successful in-app purchase events** (for example, product id and related transaction metadata available from StoreKit).
These help us understand product usage and revenue. They are **not** used to upload your raw GPS trail or Smart Zone details for advertising profiling as part of this Policy’s description of the App.
---
## 4. How we use your information
We use the information above to:
- Provide **tracking, map, fog, pins, statistics, replay, edit, import/export**, and other core features.
- Operate **Smart Recording** and **background** features when you opt in and grant permissions.
- Authenticate users, support **account** features, and provide **optional cloud backup** via **LeanCloud** and **iCloud** as implemented.
- Validate **purchases** and **subscriptions** and show correct entitlements.
- Run **minimal analytics** to maintain and improve stability and product decisions.
- Respond to **feedback** and support requests.
- Comply with **legal obligations** and enforce our terms where applicable.
---
## 5. Legal bases (EEA/UK users — summary)
Where **GDPR** applies, we may rely on:
- **Performance of a contract** (providing the App and features you request).
- **Legitimate interests** (security, fraud prevention, product improvement, minimal analytics), balanced against your rights.
- **Consent** where required (for example, certain permissions or optional marketing communications if ever offered—not covered here unless separately presented in the App).
You may withdraw consent where processing is consent-based, subject to technical and legal limits.
---
## 6. Storage, retention & deletion
- **On device:** Tracks, fog data, pins, settings, and similar content remain until you delete them in the App, erase the App, or erase the device—as implemented by features (for example, delete track, wipe data).
- **On our servers (LeanCloud):** Account credentials, analytics rows, feedback records, and optional pin/public content exist **while your account exists** or **while records are needed** for support/security. You may **request deletion** of personal data tied to your account by emailing us (**Section 1**), subject to legal retention needs.
- **Apple:** Subscription and payment records are retained per **Apple’s** policies accessible in your Apple ID settings.
---
## 7. Sharing & processors
We may share information with:
- **Apple Inc.** — iOS platform services, StoreKit payments, Maps/location/geocoding, Sign in with Apple, iCloud, and App Review. See Apple’s privacy policy for details.

- **Authorities** — If required by law, court order, or to protect rights, safety, and security.
We require service providers to use information **only on our behalf** and under appropriate safeguards.
**No sale of personal information:** We do not “sell” personal information as defined under U.S. state privacy laws commonly understood (California CPRA-style categories). We do not share data for cross-context behavioral advertising as a “sale” in that sense **for the behaviors described here**.
---
## 8. International transfers
Our backend may store data in **China** or other regions depending on LeanCloud configuration and routing (for example, China vs international app instances toggled based on region). By using optional online features, you understand data may cross borders. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards under applicable law.
---
## 9. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures (including secure transport encryption where applicable, authenticated APIs, and access controls appropriate to LeanCloud/App design) to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
---
## 10. Children’s privacy
The App is **not directed at children under 13** (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have collected such data, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
---
## 11. Your rights & choices
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to **access**, **correct**, **delete**, **export**, **object**, or **restrict** processing of certain personal data, or to **withdraw consent**.
- **iOS controls:** Permission toggles (**Settings → Privacy → Location**, **Notifications**, etc.) and **iCloud**, **Subscriptions** (manage/cancel via Apple).
