In this course, the total points available for grading across all assignments and assessments amount to 1000 points. In my grading system, I have specified both the number of points allocated for each category and their respective percentage contribution to the total course grade.
In some assignments, I use specific rubrics to assess your work consistently and fairly. These rubrics outline the criteria for grading, ensuring clarity on expectations and helping to maintain transparency in the evaluation process.
Every assignment has a due date and I want to stress to you how important it is to try to meet them. Getting behind is the number one thing that makes students end up dropping or failing an online class. Please strive to meet the due dates.
My late submission policy is as follows: Late submissions will incur a deduction of 10% per day late, up to a maximum deduction of 50%. Weekends and holidays count towards the late penalty (because this is a Summer course). For example, if an assignment is due on Friday and submitted on Monday, it will incur a 30% deduction.
My missing assignment policy is as follows: If you are missing an assignment you receive a zero.
If you use all of your tokens or are worried about assignment submission, please email me. I will always be open to talking to you about deadline changes and alternatives.
At the beginning of this course, you are allotted 3 tokens that allow you to "buy" flexibility. Most common ways you can use your token are listed below:
Extending a deadline without penalty
Submitting a missing assignment
Excusing a missing assignment
You can use these tokens anytime you want throughout the course, for almost anything (except for the final assignment), but you are limited on how many tokens you have.
If you plan on using a token for an assignment, please fill out this form to let me know what assignment and how you plan to use it. I will keep track of how many tokens you have and when you use them.
The best way to get extra credit points for this class is... you guessed it! Watch more movies!
If you see a film, write me one page response of your own thoughts and emotions to the film. In your response, feel free to be honest about your opinions. Keep in mind that it is not enough to state that the "editing was fantastic, but the storyline made no sense." You must explain what was "fantastic" about the editing using specific examples to back up your explanation.
Just submit your response to the Extra Credit assignment on Canvas.
