This project is a participatory design study of the underutilised library courtyard at SUTD. Working with real users as co-designers, our team sought to understand why a space that 93% of students knew about was used by only 11% . And to redesign it in a way that reflected genuine user needs rather than team assumptions.

This project redesigns the SUTD Hostel Lounge based on student feedback from surveys and workshops. The final design creates clear zones for studying, relaxing, playing, and socialising. By improving comfort, seating, and charging access, the lounge becomes a more welcoming and useful shared space for students.

This project aims to create a user-centred multi-functional student space that addresses the everyday needs of students by combining areas for studying, collaboration, rest, and convenience within one environment. Through surveys, collaborative sketching, and user feedback sessions, the project identified key challenges such as overcrowding, lack of rest areas, and insufficient discussion spaces. The final proposal focuses on creating a comfortable and practical space that enhances student well-being, productivity, and overall campus experience.
