About

Welcome to In the Sheets, a collection of free resources to help you get the most out of Google Sheets.

I have used Google Sheets extensively for 10+ years. I learned by reading and watching free tutorials that other people posted online. Knowing how to use Google Sheets has helped me out at work, in volunteering, and in general organization. I made this project to pay it forward to help more people get the most out of Google Sheets.

Why use Google Sheets?

Google Sheets is a powerful tool that allows real-time collaboration from anywhere. It’s free to use, highly customizable to fit any project, and it’s fun! A lot of people have used Google Sheets at some point, but many users don’t know all the cool things the system can do to make their lives easier.

It’s a flexible platform that can be used to automate tasks, run calculations, create dashboards and reports for automatic tracking, organize task management, show live project analytics, manage data, and so much more. The goal of this session is to share some tips and tricks to getting the most out of Google Sheets. It’s beginner-friendly, so all are welcome.

I can do these things in XYZ program, why should I learn Google Sheets?

There are apps and programs that automate task management, analyze data, and do everything else Google Sheets, but a lot of those cost money. I started using Google Sheets while volunteering and working for low-funded organizations where we didn't have any CRM or software to manage these things. That is the audience that I had in mind when preparing these training materials: people affiliated with nonprofits and other underresourced organizations, and anyone else who wants to learn for the sake of it (for fun).

There is so much that you can do for free in Google Sheets, and customize it as much as you like, if you're willing to learn. These skills transfer to any organization, whether or not they have a fancy database. Plus, learning formulas and their syntax can help understand coding.
