Welcome to the EPOS Internationalisation at Home Website!

What is Internationalisation at Home?

Internationalisation at Home (IaH) emerged in Europe in the late 1990s out of  concern that the internationalisation of the Higher Education system was leaving out the non-mobile majority (Almeida et al., 2019). During that period, IaH was understood as all activities in the field of education that were related to international affairs other than the movement of students abroad (Li & Xue, 2021). Since then, many attempts have been made to delineate IaH elements and rationales. The most well known definition of IaH has been proposed by Beelen and Jones, who claim that “Internationalization at Home is the purposeful integration of international and intercultural dimensions into the formal and informal curriculum for all students within domestic learning environments.” (2015, p. 69).

In this site you will find the EPOS Toolkit with case studies from around the world where IaH initiatives have been implemented, EPOS Webinars where the research findings of the EPOS project are presented as well as hands-on workshops dedicated to advance academic teaching staff competence on IaH, Testimonials from experts in IaH, and the EPOS Guide to implement IaH practices.

The EPOS website also boasts The EPOS Training Programme Space, which has been thoughtfully created to support academic teaching staff in improving their comprehension, capabilities, and expertise in IaH, and a Community of Practice: an environment designed to interact with colleagues from around the world and exchange ideas on how to better implement IaH practices.
