Since the rise of the modern age, the world has witnessed countless ravages of terrorism. As said, One’s terrorism is another’ revolution, most terrorist attacks were objectified as an act of liberation.
No country can deal with terrorism alone, and for that reason, allies like NATO, and the UN comes into action. Let me throw some light on their participation in the complex episode of terrorism prevention. ASEAN convection on counter-terrorism (2007), the ASEAN comprehensive plan of action counter terrorism(2017), the ASEAN plan of action and work plan to prevent and counter the rise of Radicalisation and violent extremes (2018-2025), and the pacific Island forum adopted the declaration on regional security(2018).
NATO invokes its collective defense clause for the first and only time in response to the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001 on the united state’s NATO role in stabilizing the wrath of terrorism. It focuses on three core tasks that have to be primarily achieved- deterrence and defense, crisis prevention and management, and cooperative security. Support of technology development has been identified as resourceful in countering terrorism.
But, cooperation of supporting countries and making alliances would not suffice until those nations that promote terrorism under their flag are not condemned. Nations like Pakistan, which is more of a military state but a democratic republic in real, have been nourishing organizations like ISIS with the sole purpose of proving the metal. Though their none mission never succeeded, all thanks to Indian military personnel, always caused a heavy loss of life and property. Afghanistan, which currently lies in the hands of the Taliban, is acting as a terrorist hub for the world.
Intelligence associations are working under alliance to help solve this stigma. Experts from a range of backgrounds are invited to brief Allies on specific areas of counter-terrorism. Likewise, discussions with international organizations- including the United Nations, the European Union, International Criminal Police organizations(INTERPOL), the organization for security and co-operation in Europe(OSCE), and the Global Counter-Terrorism Form(GCTF)- enhance Allies' knowledge of international counter-terrorism efforts worldwide. But here, the point of discussion is not Terrorism, it is World Peace and another equally important step to be undertaken is disarmament.
Since the birth of the United Nations, the goal of multilateral disarmament and arms limitations treaties has been central to the organization’s efforts to maintain international peace and security. Nuclear weapons, one of the terrifying deterrents is a spotted concern that needs to be addressed. The UN has sought to eliminate nuclear weapons ever since its establishment. At the end of this discussion, I have got only one question, are all of these good and enough for world peace..?
