Interdisciplinary Approaches in Human-Agent Interaction
Half-Day workshop, 4th December 2023, 13.00-17:00 CET
at the 11th International Conference on Human-Agent Interaction (HAI 23, Gothenburg)
Welcome to the first workshop on Interdisciplinary Approaches in Human-Agent Interaction
Objectives of the workshop
The very notion of Human-Agent Interaction recognizes that these agents are not merely isolated technologies but embedded within society. Accordingly, HAI is not solely an engineering problem but one that can (and needs to) be theorized and informed by many different disciplines, including legal, philosophical, psychological, design, medical, or sociological, to name a few.
This workshop aims to bring together everyone from all corners of academia who believes that HAI must reflect and respond to methodological and epistemological plurality within formalized domains of study and practice.
The main goal is to provide a space where participants can:
Explore methodologies from various disciplines.
Present and discuss research with colleagues from other fields and practice ‘popular science’ communication skills in a non-technical and safe environment.
Reflect on research practices and methodologies in HAI, and identify potential gaps or limitations.
Discuss approaches to train and educate future researchers for interdisciplinary work.
Discuss funding opportunities targeted at interdisciplinary HAI research and share strategies for securing funding.
Create new connections and future collaborations with participants from different disciplines
This workshop will follow a hybrid format and will be held in conjunction with the International Conference on Human-Agent Interaction. The workshop will take place on December 4th (2023): in-presence at the conference venue in Gothenburg, Sweden, and virtually on Zoom.
