Carole Nuckton Scholarship

The Carole Nuckton Scholarship honors her memory by advancing two things she held dear: education and the ecumenical call to service that she believed faith requires.

Throughout her life, Carole combined enthusiasm for education with exploration of many areas of thought and spirituality. She held a Master’s degree in Philosophy, and for many years taught philosophy at a community college. She had a particular interest in the work of Teilhard de Chardin, and his vision of the spiritual elements inherent in the evolutionary process. She was an elder in the Presbyterian church, and served on Session numerous times. She also organized and participated in study groups, and facilitated ecumenical—both interdenominational and interfaith—discussion panels. Carole believed that God was too vast to be completely understood by any single spiritual approach, but that an interfaith quest could provide a path to a richer grasp of the infinite.  She also held that faith required active participation in the well-being of the community at large.
