Producing a Holographic Illusion – some project considerations: -

Clear vision for the installation is needed: -

      • Story

        • Length of experience

      • Size of audience

      • Size of the illusion

      • Audience positioning: -

        • Stood or sat, flat floor or raked staging

        • Fix audience positions or moving e.g. in roller coaster or free flow environment at an exhibition.

      • Understanding of the viewing conditions: -

        • Angles of view – e.g. is stage above or below eye line.

        • Designed for forced perspective (trick to make small look big) or unforced i.e. 1:1 scale staging.

        • Light levels in the audience location and on stage.

      • Planning of the stage: -

        • Where can the Holographic equipment be sited but not be viewed by the audience.

        • How to utilize existing structure to prevent additional costs and avoid the need to build expensive pits.

      • Production of site drawings based on knowledge of the illusion rules.

      • Physical site survey for permanent installations.

      • Understanding of temporary installation limitations.

      • Plan for electrical mechanical and civil engineering issues.

      • Plan for set-works or other elements that will be on the stage.

        • Plan for any integration of the illusion with real objects.

      • Planning of any video shooting required: -

        • Video production techniques.

        • Frame rate choice, resolutions that work lens selection, camera position: fixed or tracked camera, method of isolating the subject form the background, lighting that works for the illusion, appropriate audio capture and integration with the video.

        • Maybe a live content production plan is required e.g. for teleconferencing and remote presentation or for some forms of motion capture.

        • Wardrobe rules.

      • Post-production, live video production, integration of animation assets, grading and editing, production of the final files in the required playback format

      • Specification of the lighting and audio and video file playback.

      • Specification of Audio-Visual equipment that will work: -

        • Projectors / lenses; projection screen types, methods for compressing and redirecting projection light paths to an optimal geometric fit.

        • Other displays, LED LCD panels etc.

        • Audio playback equipment.

        • Complimentary stage Lighting to bring the illusion to life and potentially DMX control of these elements

        • Understanding GPI/O interactives.

        • Understanding Motion capture integration.

      • How to stage the following types of popular illusions

        • A person dead or alive appearing on stage

          • permanent, temporary...even mobile e.g. the back of a Lorry.

        • How to make people and objects disappear to the audience - this includes real people and objects as well as digital ones (which are easy anyway).

We are on standby to help you navigate through these issues.
