Welcome to Our ITS Research Hub IGNITE: Innovation Group for Networked Intelligent Transportation system design and Experimentation
We are a committed team of researchers specializing in Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). ITS integrates electronics, communication, control and information technology to enhance the efficiency, safety and reliability of surface transportation under diverse traffic and weather conditions. ITS application areas include, but are not limited to, Advanced Traveller Information Systems (ATIS), Advanced Traffic Management Systems (ATMS), Advanced Public Transportation Systems (APTS), Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), and Autonomous vehicles.
Our work focuses on addressing key challenges in the ITS domain, including:
Multi-modal Design of Intelligent Transportation Systems using opportunistically sourced information.
Studying the Impact of External Events on Traffic: Analyzing how external events, such as accidents, adverse weather conditions, road closures, etc., influence traffic patterns, enabling us to enhance real-time traffic management.
Traffic Scenario Modelling and Simulation: Developing advanced models and simulations to predict and optimize traffic flow, contributing to efficient road network design.
Design of Advanced Urban Public transportation system involving (1) Arrival time prediction of buses at downstream bus-stops on the route; (2) Automatic bus-stop detection by processing historical trajectory data of buses and crowd-sourced commuter data; (3) Crowd-sourced commuter data processing for the transport mode identification and crowdedness detection in the buses; and (4) Processing bus trajectories for road network monitoring (e.g., quality of roads - presence of potholes and average movement speed, detection of junctions, their type (circle and cross-roads) and time varying regulation (traffic light controlled and uncontrolled).
Analysis of driving patterns and physiological parameters of Two-wheeler vehicle drivers
Design of Models for Last Mile Connectivity: Design solutions to provide seamless first/last mile connectivity to public transportation to ensure convenient and accessible travel for everyone.
Dealing with Sparse Traffic Data: Tackling the complexities of limited traffic data availability through innovative approaches, enabling better insights despite data challenges.
Supporting Movement of Emergency Vehicles in Road network
Design of Charge Scheduling and Pricing Models for Electric Vehicles
