The Intellectual Property (IP) Cell at NMIMS Bengaluru functions as a multi-disciplinary academic and research hub focused on the study of Intellectual Property law. It supports teaching, research, and informed engagement across diverse areas of IP, while also offering consultative support to individuals and businesses seeking to develop and manage their intellectual property portfolios.
The IP Cell is actively involved in outreach initiatives aimed at promoting IP awareness and facilitation. It also serves as a platform for inter-institutional collaboration, with a focus on human resource development and capacity-building programmes that strengthen collective innovation and creative potential.
The IP Cell also operates as a continuous learning body. It identifies emerging national and regional needs, examines the legal impact of evolving technologies and socio-economic frameworks, and develops forward-looking strategies to respond to future challenges and opportunities in the field of Intellectual Property.
At the Intellectual Property Cell, NMIMS Bengaluru, we work at the intersection of creativity and law. Our role is to help individuals recognise the value of their intellectual output and understand the legal mechanisms available to protect it.
We support this objective through focused engagement across key areas of Intellectual Property law:
Copyright protects original expression. Whether it involves academic writing, software code, artistic work, or musical composition, we provide guidance on securing ownership rights and preventing unauthorised use or reproduction.
Trademarks protect identity. Names, logos, and symbols serve as markers of origin and reputation. We assist in understanding trademark registration and enforcement to ensure that distinctive brands remain legally protected.
Patents protect inventions. Where a novel and useful technical solution is developed, we facilitate awareness of patent filing processes and the legal rights that restrict unauthorised making, use, or commercialisation.
Designs protect visual appeal. The aesthetic features of a product often carry commercial value. We guide the protection of industrial designs to ensure that form, configuration, and visual originality receive legal recognition.
Through these focus areas, the IP Cell seeks to translate ideas into legally protected assets and to promote informed engagement with the intellectual property framework.
The Intellectual Property Cell, NMIMS Bengaluru aims to promote a strong culture of innovation through a clear understanding of Intellectual Property Rights across academics, research, and entrepreneurship. We focus on building awareness among students and faculty on the value of IP in protecting and advancing scholarly and commercial work.
To support this objective, the Cell organises IP-focused bootcamps, workshops, and expert-led sessions, while encouraging student engagement through research initiatives, academic discussions, and national-level competitions. These efforts are designed to develop practical competence, critical thinking, and informed participation in the evolving legal landscape of innovation.
Innovation depends on certainty. Ideas grow when creators know their work will be protected, not misused. At the IP Cell, NMIMS Bengaluru, we support this certainty by helping individuals understand and secure their intellectual property. We believe that creating ideas is only the first step; protecting them is equally essential. By safeguarding intellectual property, we ensure that original work is recognised, owned, and legally protected, giving innovators the confidence to share, develop, and apply their ideas in academic, professional, and commercial spaces.
The Intellectual Property Cell, NMIMS Bengaluru engages with the intellectual property ecosystem through a structured and multi-level approach. We advance academic understanding through focused teaching and research across key areas of IP law, including copyright, patents, and trademarks.
Beyond academics, we translate legal knowledge into practice by offering consultative support to innovators and entrepreneurs, enabling informed IP management and strategic integration into business models. We further extend our engagement through outreach and facilitation initiatives, conducting awareness programmes that make Intellectual Property Rights accessible and relevant to the wider community.
