High Altitude training is a form of aerobic training. It trains the aerobic energy system and improves cardiovascular endurance.
High altitude it self say's increased in height from the sea levels. Air is thinner at high altitudes. In order to cope with less oxygen available in thin air, the body produces more hemoglobin (the oxygen carrying components of red blood cells). So, having more hemoglobin/ red blood cells results in improved performance at sea levels.
Benefits of high altitude training
Increased lung capacity
Increased lactic acid threshold.
Increased hemoglobin mass and red blood cells volume.
Muscles become more efficient at extracting oxygen from the blood.
Negative Impacts
The increase in red blood cells, makes the blood thicker which can make the blood flow slow. It makes difficult for the heart to pump blood flow throughout the bood and can actually reduce the amount of oxygen getting to where it is required.
If we perform weight training at high altitude, we cannot avaid weight loss,. Our body will consume oue muscles in order to provide energy from training that will weak body's immune system. It may lead to further infections which lead to decrease in sports performance.
Information- Altitude above sea level
Beyond 3000m(9840 feet) - High Altitude
500-2000m - (Low Altitude)
2000-3000m - (Moderate Altitude)
Above > 5500m -(Extreme Altitude)
