The Life and Spiritual Initiation of Guruji

On 3 April 1951, Guruji graced the Earth with his birth, in the village Chhanang Dhar located in the scenic town of Jogindernagar, in District Mandi of Himachal Pradesh in India. As he grew up in the care of his father who was a hard working farmer, his spiritual calling took him to meet his Guru.

At the behest of a wandering sanyasi, Vipracharya commonly known as Sunil Bhattacharya, who was also a Homeopathic practitioner, Dr. S R Thakur took initiation from his revered guru Sri Sri Mat Paramhans Nar Narayan Tirth Dev in June 1976 at Sidhayoga Ashram, in village Bahalpur-District Goalpara (now Dhubri) of Assam state in India. He was given the spiritual name of Brahmanand Paramhans by Guru Baba, in 1980.

Later he completed his Ph.D in Genetics from the prestigious Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) New Delhi. Followed by Post Doctorate studies from Vavilov Institute of General Genetics Moscow in Russia from 1985-1987. He then served for 30 years and retired as Prof. and Head, Dept. of Agricultural Biotechnology, at the Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishwavidalaya (HPKV) in 2011.

He now spends his retired life in the peaceful atmosphere of his family home in village Kandbari, near Palampur city in Himachal Pradesh, India. Disciples visit this ashram and feel at home in the loving company of Guruji, Guru Mataji and their children.

Born in a small village of Shaalbari, District Goalpara of Assam in India his childhood name was Narendra. After his father and mother passed away his spiritual quest took him to meet his Guru, Sri Mukund Goswami. After years of meditation his Guru told him to go into a cave and spend 2 months there. Slowly all food supplies were exhausted and he survived only on leaves. After 3 months he came out by that time he was so weak that he could barely walk. Some good man saw him and took him with him. Later this man made a hut for him to stay and became his disciple. Slowly more people came to know and then near the river Champa, the Sidhayoga Ashram was built. 

Vipracharya commonly known as Dr. Sunil Bhattacharya was an ardent devotee and disciple of Guru Baba. He guided Guruji to Guru Baba's ashram in Bahalpur(Assam).

He taught him spiritual secrets in a friendly manner before and after his initiation. Post awakening when Guruji was in Kullu and not so well, he took good care of him as Guru Baba himself would have. Guruji often remembers him with great affection.

This picture of him had been published in an Assamese magazine that describes him as a lifelong sannyasi and supreme devotee.

Chiti Didi was another devoted disciple of Guru Baba. She served all at the ashram with great affection and care.

Later after Guru Baba left the body, she used to give Diksha from Guwahati branch of the ashram.

Now she too has left the body but is remembered for her love and affection.
