Dr. Maria Lourdes (or Malou) San Diego-McGlone is one of the pioneers in chemical oceanography in the Philippines. She has done work to examine changing coastal water quality conditions, nutrient dynamics, coastal ecosystem response to anthropogenic stressors such as eutrophication and ocean acidification, blue carbon ecosystems estimation, and harmful algal bloom mitigation. She is a retired professor at the Marine Science Institute, University of the Philippines and has been appointed Professor Emeritus of UP Diliman.
Russel Christine Corcino is a blue carbon and jellyfish scientist from the University of the Philippines Diliman. She is currently involved in projects that focus on studying and imparting knowledge on the ecological aspects of blue carbon ecosystems in the Philippines. She is also one of the few aspiring jellyfish scientists in the country, studying and spreading awareness on jellyfish distribution, ecology, and sting mitigation in the country.
