The United Nation’s 2010 Aichi Biodiversity Targets highlighted the promotion of biodiversity-related knowledge and concepts to form mainstream social values as one of its primary goals. This “Biodiversity in Taiwan” course is aimed to inspire students to explore the sources of biodiversity, to recognize and to appreciate native species diversity in Taiwan, and to encourage students to actively engage in nature in the future. The course will adopt a variety of teaching techniques such as lectures, field trips, and group project assignments. Students who have completed this course shall be able to identify at least one hundred native species in Taiwan, and be familiar with Taiwan’s biodiversity knowledge-base and resources, and aware of the seriousness of the problems that invasive species have caused.
