Assistant Professor (tenure track)

Research profile

The candidate will have to carry out his/her research activity within the Informatics group of MIGe and in coordination with the computer engineering group at the University of Trieste, also taking part in local and regional Data Science and Artificial Intelligence initiatives.

The candidate will be able to delineate his/her research activity in a fully independent way, eventually developing his/her research laboratory. Collaborating with the existing faculty in the broad University of Trieste and within the overall Trieste / regional area is a plus.

At this point, we are prioritizing applicants mainly focused on the broad areas of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, including algorithms, machine learning, knowledge management, databases, symbolic Artificial Intelligence, social computing, formal methods and Artificial Intelligence applications in medicine, business intelligence, social sciences, transportations and industry 4.0.  

Scientific profiles with a background showing the ability and attitude to interact with multidisciplinary research groups are preferred.


Teaching duties


New faculty members are expected to teach in the bachelor and master programs run by our faculties, as well as in other programs of the University. Considering that the teaching load for a tenured professor is 120 hours per year, the candidates will start with a reduced load eventually reaching 120 hours by the end of the tenure assessment.


Career path


This type of tenure track lasts at most 6 years, and after transitions to an open-ended Associate Professorship at MIGe


To be eligible for tenure, candidates are expected to have obtained the national accreditation in the informatics scientific sector (INF/01) issued by the national evaluation panel - details on the process are also available at abilitazione.miur.it.


From the third year of appointment, candidates holding the national habilitation can apply to be evaluated for early tenure. The conditions for this application to be successful have still to be determined at the national level.
