2024 — 2025
This year my goal is to raise money to benefit the Turnstone Center for Disabled Adults and Children. As the Children of the American Revolution, it is one our jobs to serve others, and kids helping kids is a great way of doing that. We were selling Indiana T-Shirts for $20, selling Beef Sticks for $1.50, and also using a donation tool set up by Turnstone. My theme for this year is Children in History. There were many children who dedicated their lives to the cause during the American Revolution, and I intend to honor them this year. Many of these patriots are not well known, and bringing their stories to light will help people to recognize their part.
2023 — 2024
This year for the Indiana Society C.A.R. state project, we are working with the Helping Heroes of America Foundation. The Helping Heroes of America foundation supports on duty service members and veterans at the VA hospital by sending them care packages, as well as providing direct financial support to the families of deployed service members. In correlation with our project, our theme for the year is "Caring for our American Heroes."
This state president chose her project because both on duty service members and veterans are important people in our country, and it always feels great when we can help out our nation's fighters in special way like sending them homemade care packages, or homemade thank you cards.
2022 — 2023
I am raising money for the helping veterans and families organization of Indiana, also known as HVAF. HVAF supports homeless veterans and their families through temporary housing, a food pantry, outreach, and career planning to help veterans get on their feet. I am selling pins for $10 each to raise these funds for HVAF.
2021 — 2022
My state project for this year is to help the Ronald McDonald house, a communal housing for families with children in Riley’s Children's Hospital, located in Indianapolis. I will be selling pins for $10, and all proceeds will be directly donated for any restoration, or goods that the house needs. I also hope to have a couple drives to give laundry soap, and/or nonperishables because the house always needs soap and is welcome to any pantry stuffers due to the communal laundry, and pantries the house provides. I have personal ties due to the many times I have served there for my church.
2020 — 2021
As stated at our virtual state conference, my state fund raiser is Autism Speaks. I am not only raising funds for this wonderful organization but raising awareness about Autism. Please join me in making a difference for a worthy out-reach program. You can help by purchasing an Autism lapel puzzle pin for $10.00 each which includes postage. For every pin sold, Austism Speaks will receive $5.00. Thanks ever so much for your support. It is an Honor to Serve.
2019 — 2020
This year for my state project I will be raising money for the Indiana School for the Blind and Visually Impaired. My state theme this year is “Seeing a Brighter Future.” The school was built in 1847 and is in Indianapolis. It serves babies to high school aged students in the community and across the nation. I’m excited for CAR to get involved with this school and I’m excited to visit it in the future.
2018 — 2019
This year for my state project I will be raising money for the USO. My theme is Serving Those Who Served Us. USO stands for United Service Organizations. Like the name states the USO is a service-based group. War takes a toll on the mental and physical health of a solider. The USO provides programs to help the soldiers feel more at home. I will be raising money specifically to help with a kitchen renovation at camp Atterbury. Due to the rising need for more space to accommodate soldiers, the USO is expanding the kitchen area. It is our turn to step to the plate and take on the challenge of rising money. I look forward to a fun and productive year.
2017 — 2018
My state theme this year is Honoring Our Heroes One Last Time. I will be raising funds for our local Veterans of Foreign Wars Military Funeral Rites Team. They provide military funeral honors for deceased veterans of a foreign war. The VFW Military Funeral Rites team honors these veterans by performing a 21gun salute, playing taps, presenting the family with an American flag, and helping the family secure a plaque to be placed at their final resting place that will recognize their branch of service, years served, and which war they fought in. The money I raise will go towards transportation expenses, purchasing flags, and purchasing uniforms. I am available to speak to local C.A.R, D.A.R, S.A.R. and S.R. societies. I will also be selling veteran's pins for $10 a piece which I encourage you to purchase and give to a veteran to thank them for their service.
2016 — 2017
My state project this year is raising money for the Crossnore School. Crossnore is a DAR school, which is located in Crossnore, North Carolina. The Crossnore School is a non-profit residential foster care home for children in crisis from North Carolina. Children come from all over the state and they have a special focus on keeping siblings groups together. For more than 100 years the Crossnore School has provided a Christian sanctuary of hope and healing for children in need. Children live, learn and prosper in a loving, home-like environment. I will be raising money to help the children have the opportunity to travel for spring break 2017. My state theme is Adventure Awaits. I would be happy to speak to S.A.R., D.A.R. societies and attend your local society meetings.
2015 — 2016
My state project, "A Home For Our Heroes". I will be raising funds for Jackson Street Commons. Jackson Street Commons provides permanent housing in Kokomo for chronically homeless, disabled veterans. There are many people which you could call heroes but my heroes are the United States veterans. Many of them have put their lives on line to help defend the freedoms we enjoy today yet 49,000 veterans are homeless on any given night and another 1.4 million are at risk of becoming homeless. I believe they all deserve a home to come back to since they served and fought so we can have ours. This is why I have chosen my year as state president to raise money for Jackson Street Commons, which help, provide the basic needs for 27 veterans. I will be selling veterans pins for $10 which I encourage you to pass onto a veteran you consider as your hero. I am also available to speak to local C.A.R., D.A.R., and S.A.R. chapters. I hope you will join me in helping to promote my project. Alex Knight Indiana State President C.A.R.
2014 — 2015
My state project this year is raising money for the dyslexic program at Hindman Settlement School in Kentucky. I am raising money for a scholarship for at least one child to attend the schools summer program that helps the children understand how they learn differently with dyslexia. It is quite expensive for kids to go to this six week program, but no child has ever been turned away for lack of funds. My state theme is “A Need To Readâ€. I would be happy to speak to S.A.R., D.A.R. societies and attend your society meetings. I will be speaking at the banquet at the Great Lakes Regionals in Columbus, OH. I hope lots of Indiana members can make it. Remember to promote my state project and the National Presidents project! Hannah Weaver Indiana State President C.A.R.
2013 — 2014
My state project this year is to raise money for Circle of Change, an organization that helps veterans suffering from the effects of trauma and mental disorders, such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Circle of Change helps provide improvement in the quality of life veterans deserve, along with self-esteem and social skills through observation and dog training. I plan on raising money by speaking to different groups and attending conferences. I would also love to speak at your local CAR Society, DAR chapter, or SAR chapter. My theme this year is “Pets Helping Vets”. The first state board meeting will be at my residence. We will start at 2 pm and afterwards we can swim in our pool. I hope to see a lot of you there. Our regional meeting is in Lisle, Illinois in July. I would encourage CAR members to attend if possible. It is a very fun time and you will make many new friends. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or if you would like me to speak to your chapter/society. I hope to see everyone soon and let’s make this year the greatest!
2012 — 2013
My state project, We the People. We the People is a constitutional program through the Indiana Bar Foundation that promotes constitutional literacy for elementary, middle, and high school students. We the People’s primary goal is to promote civic competence and responsibility among elementary and secondary students. Please help contribute to We the People by purchasing "Celebrate 225" pins and magnets or "Celebrate C.A.R." magnets.
2010 — 2011
My state project this year is to raise money for Loveway, a therapeutic horseback riding in Middlebury (Lovewayinc.org). I volunteer there with my mom. I have help with an elementary class and a young-adult class. I have seen first hand how this interaction not only helps with the physical condition of a girl who is in a wheelchair, but also a boy who is non-verbal and eagerly uses sign language when he is riding. The children learn to count as they brush the horse. They all LOVE to ride. I am selling horse pins to raise money for the center. I am also speaking to different organizations. I'd love to speak to your C.A.R. Society or DAR Chapter. My theme is "sending a little love to Loveway."
2009 — 2010
My project will inspire you all to help our environment and our country. My project, for those of you who don't know what it is, is to raise money to donate to the nature preserve at Patoka Lake. The money will go toward the eagle, C52, a bald eagle with a genetic wing disorder. I invite you all to “ Fly High with I.S.C.A.R.†this year and would like to see you at some of our fun state board meetings and state conference.
2008 — 2009
Welcome Hello Indiana C.A.R.! This year for my state project, I'm raising funds for the Tamassee D.A.R. School in South Carolina. My goal is to raise $25,000 to build a swimming pool, for construction by the 2009 summer. I have visited Tamassee twice so far. While there, I have made a lot of friends and have been impressed by the great work they are doing there. I'm excited for a chance to help the Tamassee kids. This year's dates for the state board meetings are:
2007 — 2008
This year for my project, I am raising funds ($2,000) to purchase a scale for the thrift shop at Tamassee. In case you were wondering, ‘what is the use of this huge scale’, it is so the thrift shop can weigh in the donations coming in to sell. Also, this year I would like you as C.A.R. to bring in donations for the thrift shop, but make sure it is new or lightly used and we will be collecting them at the board meetings.
2006 — 2007
“Know Your Rights.” My project will consist of filming a public service announcement to be aired on local television stations. I have already communicated with these stations and at this point only need to film the announcement. The announcement will be focused on the Bill of Rights. I believe many Americans have lost touch with their original rights and need to be aware of them. This day in age, our rights are constantly infringed upon and I am hoping my announcement will significantly hinder this. This announcement will be targeted towards all age groups but in a way so that small children can also understand.
2005 — 2006
For my project I set up an endowment fund to provide assistance for each incoming and current CAR state president. This fund will provide the registration and admission into all major events for both the current and incoming state president at the National CAR conference. If the project goes well, I would also be willing to open this endowment to other members of the Indiana State Society CAR to attend free of charge. This will encourage more attendance at the national convention, to which Indiana tends to have a very small showing. This will also reduce the cost for many families with multiple CAR members in the family.
2004 — 2005
First cabin in Carroll County belonging to Samuel Milroy. Weeds now overrun the site of the cabin and the monument is not visible from the road. As the first phase of my project I would like to clear away the undergrowth from the area and even take out some of the small trees so that the monument can be seen from the road. I would also like to build a handrail going up the small hill to the monument to make it easier to get to the site. The second part of my project is to purchase a historical road marker that would tell about the site and of Samuel Milroy’s life and accomplishments. The marker will be placed on a road near the site.
2003 — 2004
"Children in 1776" is a traveling exhibit that talks about toys and games, school, chores, home life, and children’s contributions to the war effort. The exhibit includes dolls dressed in period clothes and replicas of toys and games of the time period. To introduce C.A.R. and help bring membership up. This exhibit was the 2003-2004 State President, Melody Pike’s State Project. To introduce C.A.R. and help bring membership up, this exhibit is still traveling around the state. C.A.R., DAR, and SAR members are encouraged to arrange for a month in which the exhibit will be displayed in a library or school with brochures telling about C.A.R.
2011 — 2012
