Use printed, coloured musical notes which correspond to the colours of resonator bells: Give the student a printed A3-sized music score with all musical notes colour-coded according to the colours of the bars of the resonator bells. Each note has its letter name below it to indicate its pitch. The printed paper is placed directly next to or above the bells for easy referencing.
Paste coloured stickers to show chord positions on the ukulele. Students are able to identify the location of chords more quickly and associate the colours with chord charts that are also coloured with the corresponding colours.
Based on the principles of Universal Design for Learning, Multiple Means of Representation and Multiple Means of Action and Expression were used to help the student with dyslexia and impaired working memory. The main focus of the lesson is for students to create a soundscape using classroom instruments and GarageBand.
