Cognitive Considerations

Incorporate flexible features for a wide range of cognitive abilities (intuitive use, adaptability, working memory, response time, tolerance for error, cognitive fatigue, and overstimulation).

Affordance-based Approach

Person, Environment, Affordances Venn Diagram – Person (left region) shows the physical, sensory, and cognitive areas of the person; Environment (right region) shows that it is made up of the physical environment, social environment, and cultural milieu; Affordances (centre region) overlaps and connects between the person and environment. Within affordances are activities that are enabled by the affordances of the environment and the abilities of the user. Affordances follow a cycle in which potential affordances are perceived by the user and informs their actions, and in turn the user also shapes the environment to create additional potential affordances.
